A bench would probably serve you better, you could also use it as temporary rest for things you've carried in or out of house.

I could see a water feature such as a modest fountain placed in the mulch area. Placing two nice wood outdoor chairs kitty corner with a small ceramic piece between for a table would be welcoming. A bench may not feel as comfortable for a conversation spot. Plus a cluster of potted plants would add color.

is this a condo or do you have HOA?

can you paint the door, or do any tiling on the porch? or a paint/stencil?

maybe bring in some colorful ceramic pots, a small water feature?

I can't imagine anyone sitting next to the front door. Plant the areas next to the door, or add two more pots next to the one you have. Get a nicer mat and keep the rest of the area clear.

On second look, it is a rather small space to be inviting people to sit as if it were a porch.

Good place to remove shoes if you don't have room for a spot in the entry. If you're into removing shoes in the house...

I like the bench idea as well, you’ll never sit in a bistro set and it will just end up getting rusty in the elements. I also agree it would be nice if you finished the concrete somehow...

You have a good door area to work with! You will be surprised how much the look of your entry will change with just a little attention to detail. Here are my suggestions: 1) Keep the kids and their chalk off the front entry, 2) Wash & sweep the entire area, 3) Move all of the stickers/signs off the window 3) I think a bench may stick out in front of your door too far, so I would go with an outdoor chair with an outdoor pillow in it 4) replace the entry rug with something more eye catching 5) place a simple boxwood wreath on the door 6) put a potted plant to the right of the door.

Perhaps a cleaner look? Freshen the entry with some geometric tile, a clean teak bench?

You could also use an outdoor patio rug, measure your area and get the size that fits best. They can be hosed off.

I’d place a bench or chair with a table in the bark area, and continue to let the children have their chalk space for the time being. You can sit in the chair and watch them.
