This one is a Chinese windmill palm that had been there when we bought the house. It’s taller than the garage now. I put in 2 Sabal minor shortly after we got here (you know, being from Germany I was amazed to have something palm looking). Native, but still not smart. I am forever pulling out seedlings.

Aren’t most? I am still trying to look up this weird thing, too.

Is there a point where they could actually kill the whole tree? What would you do then? Is it a black cherry or a regular cherry? I took a picture of my Antennaria neglecta next to some Verbena stricta.

Just so you know my garden is in worse shape than yours lol.

They usually are on wild black cherry. I have never had them do too much damage. I was more concerned about my little oaks last year and all these oakworms. They survived, too. I am sure your garden is not in worse shape. Cleaver is running rampant.

There was a bunch of cleaver where I was too. I'll get it back into shape. The grasses really got out of control. I'm taking them all out of that garden. A lot of native perennials like asters and goldenrods need to be divided. It's hard walking back there without getting caught in some brush. One of my dutchman's breeches got stepped on. There is some crazy weather coming. Some Asclepias latifolia germinated!

Iris, these caterpillars will make a little yellowish cocoon almost anywhere. I'll attach a BugGuide link so that you can see a good picture.
