Keep the armoire and center the it on that wall. Take advantage of the free wall space, by placing a narrow full length mirror on either side. They will brighten the room and make it feel a bit larger,

Remove the book case and design one to go on the wall over the daybed. IKEA has great solutions.

Take away the round cabinet…replace with storage ottomans at the daybed (simulating coffee tables with sofa.

We'd probably build or have the bench built with storage, so size and shape are pretty open. I was thinking an L might be a good way to use the space well, since it would be under the window and along the bed, but I'd love opinions on L vs. rectangle and appropriate sizing. It'd probably be built using stock or semi-custom cabinets ...

Not sure about the rug, also ... I have some dark purple rugs that are rolled up in the closet, so I could always just try it out and see if it added anything and roll it back up if it isn't working. Do you all find that rugs make spaces feel bigger or smaller?

On a related note ... I'm probably going to repaint this room. It's currently a very pale lavender. The closest to it's current color is probably BM Sugarplum based on paint chips I've held up to it. (It's actually California Moon Mist, but that color name does not seem to exist anymore, so ... maybe renamed to California Violet Pearl?) The trim/ceiling are a creamy white, similar to BM Cloud White or BM Parish White; the ceiling is not part of the repainting plan.

I'm thinking it will be a bit deeper in color and something that'll read a bit less pink. I don't really want to go too blue, though. I was thinking of doing something slightly greyed, but I worry about reading blue or muddy. I was also thinking of painting a different, darker color on the 71.5" and 36.75" walls (bottom of diagram - where the bookcase is now).

The bookcase could be repainted if it's clashing with things, though its finish is nice, and I don't really want to paint it just to paint it. The armoire is obviously staying as it is, and the round piece is, well, complicated, but I like the color of it.

If you have suggestions for paint colors/combinations, I'd love to hear them. If it's a Benjamin Moore color that's remotely purple or grey, I probably have the paint chip for it at this point ...

What is the finish on the book case, does it match the armoire? Can you take pictures of the room and furniture that you haven't already posted? I like the L shape of the bench. Are you going to be in this place for a while? I ask because if you do move, the L might not fit in the next place. I'd remove the footboard if possible to open up the space (unless the footboard is already very low). The bookcase is from Home Decorators before they were purchased by Home Depot, so its nothing fancy ... It's a paint finish with a stained wood top (purple and honey oak); it doesn't match the armoire (Arhaus - java).

I think the footboard is integral to the bedframe, but I can see if there's a hollywood frame floating around somewhere ... I'm not sure what happened to the one I was using before I acquired this frame; I know the headboard I was using is still around. I'll grab a picture of them a little later.

Don't plan on moving soon, so more worried about fitting this space than future spaces. I was debating whether it would feel banquette-ish and seem out of place in a bedroom.

I've bought samples from Samplize.com to test colors and found it really useful. They are paint decals you can move around so you can test colors without having a ton of paint leftover. What direction do your windows face?

The store near me does rent-a-quarts for like five dollars ... I actually already have a small can of Wisteria because I painted the desk that color ... though the desk is leaving the room, so that matching isn't an issue.

Windows face north.

Laurel Bern is another great blog. She says small rooms look great in dark colors. I only found one bedroom with an L, but your room is different than most designer rooms that are huge.

This is where the bench would be going. The desk is painted BM Wisteria ... don't mind its lack of drawers ... there was a debate over how they were to be finished; they're currently being stained.

So I painted some cardboard squares ...

The left window has BM Kalamata and BM Inspired sitting on top of it, and the right window has BM Wisteria sitting on top of it.

I'm leaning strongly towards the pair on the left, as the BM Wisteria is feeling much too grey and office-y when trying to be a wall as opposed to on the desk, where it feels lighter.

Conveniently, the bookcase appears to be pretty much BM Kalamata, so it should balance nicely when sent to the wall opposite the BM Kalamata walls.

i like the left ones better too. Are you using both colors or choosing one to go with your curren color? Here are both of the colors on the left side by side.

The room is in need of repainting regardless of what colors I pick, so I was going to use the two new colors - Inspired for most of the room with Kalamata as the accent walls. I might still audition a few more colors on cardboard before I make any final decision, though. The current color is a bit too pastel and not really doing it anymore, so most likely two new colors.

Have you tried the BM paint a scene tool?

I have. It's how I've gotten much of the way through color selection, but screen colors are only so much substitute for an actual sample with lighting and all. Which reminds me ... I need to move my samples around.

How did moving the samples look? Any progress?

BM Inspired (main color) and BM Kalamata (accent walls) appear to be the winning colors, though the actual painting is going to have to wait until after new outlet installation and some wall patching. No point in painting before the electrician comes and having to do touch up. Some of the furniture is going to get moved around this weekend, though.

It's not the exact collection as the armoire, but it would be the same company and color. Top of the headboard would come to a couple inches below the start of the slant in the wall.

I like that it would match in color. It seems a little masculine to me, but the price is great. Have you ever considered just getting a headboard. This one is quite affordable and gets great reviews (just using this as an example.

There's an Arhaus store not too far away, so I might see if they have it in stock to actually look at in person ... and yeah, the price is very attractive.

I've got some boxes stacked up to imitate a nightstand (well, I guess be a nightstand, since I still need somewhere for my glasses, etc., at night). Bed won't be in for a bit, though, and the nightstand won't be picked out until after.

Do you sew or know someone who does? I ran across this pretty fabric and love all the colors it would bring into a room.

That's cute ... and it reminds me that I bought some fabric that I was going to make something with ... and holding them up to my cardboards, they actually match the new colors even better!

Okay, bed is in ...

I'm now trying to figure out the best style for a nightstand ... cardboard box might not be it, but it works well as a placeholder. The box is 22" tall by 15.5" across for reference; height to the top of the mattress is about 27". Bed could move a bit either direction on the wall, though I'd like to leave room for the curtains to fall nicely, of course, and it can't come past about center or it clogs the door.

The nightstand should be as high as the top of the mattress. Are you happy with the paint? Do you need storage or are you open to something a little lighter in feel?

I'm loving the paint.

I was thinking 26-27" tall for the nightstand, but the box is at least somewhere to put my glasses at night (and it was free). I was originally thinking I wanted something with a cabinet or drawers, but then I worry about it a) clashing with the wood of the bed, b) looking too bulky overall. So I've also been considering something more open with a shelf, and then I could put some baskets or decorative pieces on the shelf/shelves.

What are your plans for the fabric? is It too heavy for a tablecloth?

It's not an upholstery fabric ... more quilting weight, so pillows, quilts, etc. It was somewhat purchased on a whim and has had a couple ideas that they could be used for but nothing concrete. My current thought is that I might use it to line some baskets (if I end up using baskets) or make some pillow covers for accent pillows.

What about using it as a tablecloth with a piece of glass covering it? That corner seems a bit dark.

I don't think table cloths on night stands would work out well for me ... I see them getting tangled in or mistaken the bed linens (cue the crash in the middle of the night).

That being said, I'm thinking I might need something lighter that the thoughts I posted ... They're feeling heavy.

I was planning to use the grey lamp with the linen-tone shade (was on the bookcase when it was by the bed) on the nightstand. I'll grab a picture of it on the box "nightstand" ...

Does the bookcase need to stay in the room? And the things currently under the bed, there's no other place to store them? I totally get if those things *have* to stay in there-we have a small house/small bedrooms, so I'm familiar w/the need to keep things in other places for sure-was just checking if a storage ottoman couldn't be used say, in the living room for some fabric to free up space under the bed and such.

I'm a side-side/floor-ceiling storage liker. Ended up taking all the dressers out of my daughter's room, putting her clothes under the bed. I feel your pain!

A bookcase is needed ... it doesn't necessarily have to be that bookcase. Most of the storage places are already occupied ... and no one is willing to give up spaces they've already claimed. I've been trying to sort before anything gets to go back under the bed, but it's not looking like much is leaving.

I think you could use a taller lamp. Mine is 28", bit that might not work for you.

So I'm testing the green color of the last nightstand I posted ... I borrowed the side table in the photograph from elsewhere in the house and have been informed that I may not keep it ... Unfortunately ordering a twin is not in the budget, but the one above seems like it would be similar ... for a third of the price.

(The one I'm considering would be two inches taller, three inches narrower, and an inch deeper than this one.)

Do we think this will work well? I can always change the lamp if it's too short, but nightstands are more of a challenge to find/select than lamps, so nightstand first ...

I would like to see something a little brighter there, the green is coming out of nowhere IMO. Maybe a two tone finish with white and wood the color of your headboard? I can relate on trying to find something the right size. I have a thread going on with a similar issue! ;)

Oh ... I forgot to mention where the green comes from ... the under-eaves closet is sea foam green (no plan to repaint, no door).

That being said ... the green nightstand with the drawer and shelf was a fail. I had a coupon, so I ordered it ... It had to go back. It looked like kiddie furniture next to the bed. It didn't even get fully assembled before being vetoed.

Now I'm considering spending the money on the Ballard one (the three drawer one in the photo) ... it does come in multiple colors, so I'm going to see if I can get some swatches from the Ballard store. There's some greys, a taupe, and a cream over grey as well as the green ... though I'd have to wait until some time in December for the piece to be made and come in from Italy ... and settle for the lower memory iPad (source of increased budget).

So Ballard one has color issues ... The green has been noted as being dull in the space; cream overloads on cream and just isn't working for me (we used a very sophisticated method for checking cream ... we threw a pillowcase over the box); taupe just didn't work; and the greys were either too dark or ended up looking powder bluish.

So we're back to the drawing board ... literally.

We're now considering making one/having one made ... Hey, if I was going to fly one in from Italy, how much worse can truly custom be!

Thoughts are to follow the shape of the Ballard one ... legs with three drawers and similar dimensions. However, we're thinking that the drawers would be fabric/upholstered, and we're thinking maybe some type of stone for the top (natural or synthetic ... that'd be decided at the stone place). We're hoping maybe we could get a good deal on the stone if we can find a 'scrap' we like, since we only need a small piece (I'm thinking with margins for what would get cut off for finishing et cetera, I probably only need a 20" square).

We're thinking it would be wood ... or painted wood ... but we're also considering upholstering it ... or maybe upholstered panels on the sides or something?

Why not just find something on Letgo or Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace and paint it the eaves color? Ok recently looked into having something custom made and it was twice what I expected.

I've been checking Craigslist, and the only pieces I remotely like I wouldn't have the heart to paint the wood ... it's almost all mid-century modern. I've never looked at the other two ... I'll have to at least look.

It fits if I move the bed closer to the window wall than it is, but at only 22 inches tall, it's a little short, since my mattress comes to around 27 inches high on this bed. The box is 22" tall, but about ten inches narrower than the round cabinet.

Theres a "trash to treasure" nightstand waiting for its paint to dry currently ... I'll take pictures once its dry enough to move up the stairs.

So here's the nightstand I shopped out of the basement ... it was stuffed in a corner with some boxes on top of it. It was a really strange (not in a good way) brown color with some sort of green/black glaze attempting to make it distressed wood-grain ... or something ... We got it cleaned up (paste wax is evil ...) and repainted. It was the test piece for the light grey that read powder blue in the room ... and looked equally terrible in that color. We re-repainted it with BM Temptation that we had from another project, thinking it would be a better color to potentially sell or donate it (It's a solid wood Hooker piece.), and, well, we finally found its color! (I replaced the knobs, too.) My mum agrees that of all the colors it's been (apparently several), this is the best it has looked. So if nothing else, the nightstand looks significantly better!

I think the grey has potential with fabric drawers ...
