JM's are known for their ability to produce seedlings in a very wide range of leaf color, shape and size. Which is why seedlings from a named form cannot be called by that cultivar name :-) And why so many new cultivars get introduced!

Thanks gardengal - I do plan to grow them on. It really is a tree that keeps on giving! I’m curious now, to find out if there are other tree species that produce such a variety of seedlings.

I'm posting something from a book of mine: "Japanese Maples, J. D. Vertrees 2nd edition" that you might be interested in- as it shows in photos how the leaves can change shape on the same plant but older wood vs newer wood.

Also a photo of my found seedling, parent tree unknown.
