If you are 100% sure you are never changing out your table and its position, I would suggest paying the cost to move the box. It seems to always look better.

But sometimes it’s just the way it has to be due to cost, and that is fine...as long as the light is centered and evenly distributed, I don’t think people will be staring at your ceiling. I’ve seen the chains covered with fabric which sort of helps draw the focus just on the chandelier and not what is going on with the chain.

Swaging a chandelier never ever ever looks good in any situation. It always looks like you can't afford to properly move the fixture and is a band aid solution. Are you sure you need to move it? Looks like fan is centred on picture on wall. Can you not just slide your table over a bit?

Sounds like the electrician would rather not mess. I agree -- wagging is a temporary measure -- not for a permanent house.

Had my electrical box moved in my dining room, just took a few hours at most, it wasn’t that big of a project. Move it.

Ok thanks all! Moving the box it is!! And now my next question, if I'm moving it I may want to buy a new fan or get a chandelier. What do you all think about fans in the kitchen??

Ugh, typical guy “swag it where it should be” ::eye roll:: My father told me to do the same thing to ours. We hired an electrician to move the box and center it over the table we have. Looks perfect. It wasn’t that big a deal or that expensive. But definitely well worth the effort. Do not swag anything - it just confirms it’s not in the right place to begin with.

I would not hang a fan above a dining table. I'm in Texas and we love our ceiling fans here, but absolutely not over the place where we eat. A chandelier is the best option over a dining table; that said, I'm not sure the one you were initially considering is a good match for your furniture, as it (the chandy) has a decidedly industrial look and your table and chairs have a cottage/coastal look.

If there isn't a stud in the exact location moving the box is usually easy enough. I personally like the swagged look with the right fixture and decor.

NEVER a fan over a dining room table! Worst thing you can do IMO.

Ceiling fans are great over eating/food-prep areas—if you like cold, dusty food! :)

If you use a fan with lights, the fan doesn't have to go while you're eating. duh. And nice to move the air when you aren't.
