Guest Room Dilemma

last modified: 7 years ago

Have a guest room, Don't know what to do to finish it up.

Put random photos and ordered painting for above the bed.

Don't know how to round it out and finish the room. Help for over the small table on the wall.

PS, even though the painting is coastal, don't want it to be all coastal. I actually want to stay away from coastal other than that one painting.

Thanks, I plan on a plant in corner, I was needing more suggestions on what to put on that table and above it.

I like your paint color and furniture and it looks like you have a very beautiful home. To me, the painting above the bed doesn't seem quite right. I like to leave room for guests to put their things, so if it were me, I'd leave the small table bare (or mostly bare) and put art work on that wall, where the guest can see it. I'd also keep the family photos in the rest of the house. Do you have a chair for them to sit or place a bag on? Maybe scoot the table closer to the door and put a chair on that wall, towards the window. Depending on that proportions, maybe put the coastal painting over the table and chair ? If it were me, I'd probably go for a simple but larger mirror, one that could be used by people of different heights and which would reflect the view of the window on the opposite wall.

The pictures make the small table feel crowded ... why not hang them on the wall instead? You might need to add another one or two to fill the wall appropriately. Then just go simple on the table ... stack of books can stay, maybe a small dish for coins and such, and the lizard if you like him, or you could replace the books/dish with small basket of hand towels and toiletries that you guests may have forgotten.

I might lower the art over the bed a little bit, as well; it feels high to me, though it might not be if you're actually in the room.

That's what I was wondering, if like a bunch of different photos, personal and art prints would look good etc. I just placed those things on the table because I didn't know what to do with it.

I just am at a loss for what to do over the table.

I like the painting but I think it's too high. I would lower it to about 5" above the headboard. I would take out your family photos and leave room on the dresser and night stands for the guest to use. I would swap the low table out for a bench or luggage rack.

HI. You have a lovely space and a good beginning

    I would

    1) Lower art over bed to about 5" above the bed

    2) Remove the small table.

    3) Remove all of the small items over the highboy.

To give more advice, I would need

    1) More photos of the space and/or a floor plan.

    2) Is there a walk-in closet? Maybe highboy not needed.

    3) A photo of a bedroom style you like.

    Thanks!

Lower the painting over the bed, add a painting above the table, remove everything on the table except perhaps a bowl for the guest to toss keys into. Keep minimal stuff on the dresser - guests want soace to put their own stuff - phone, glass case etc.

We recommend removing all small items off of the table and dresser. Then just add a small dish and piece of artwork over the table.

Guests often have a suitcase, so I like Precision Granite's bench idea.

I'd put artwork on the wall above where you have the narrow table.
