Tile or Wood in the Kitchen??

I have to replace the tile flooring (some tiles were damaged) and trying to figure out what would work out better... to carry the wood throughout the kitchen or update the tile.

The Tile:
When we built the home, everything was a variation of Beige: the floors, walls, backsplash countertops, cabinets. I actually like the tile flooring choice, but think it is too beige, so if I got more tile, would opt for something lighter and brighter. The current tile I like is lightly polished with some texture for slip resistance. A full polish would be too formal, but this is a bit more rustic which I like. The added sheen should also brighten up the room. If I go tile, should I be concerned with the look of a light polished (as pictured) or would you go with a matte traditional look?

The Wood:
It is a dark scraped engineered hardwood. I like the wood (pictured), and can also see it continuing through the kitchen, but have some concerns. First is the concern of water and spills. Should I be concerned? The second is the color, will it darken the kitchen too much?

What would be in/out of style in the years to come? I’d love to hear your opinion!

you have SO MUCH BROWN !!! I love wood floors but I think in your situation it would be just too much.

If you change out the floor I think the backsplash needs a refresh- and it seems your overall house is in a brown/tan scheme so changing out one room may impact flow into other rooms

You already have a lot of wood in the kitchen, I would hesitate to add more. Can you show us the damaged tiles? I would hesitate to change anything if it is not needed. But, if you need to replace them, I would not choose a highly polished tile. I would choose a new tile that would have a more matte finish and only a slight stone pattern on it that will not show much of it. Large tiles would look best. Natural stone or natural stone look. Maybe look at tiles that are different shapes to work together into a pattern. There are a lot of "lines" in the dark wood that will stay, maybe less straight lines, less pattern, would be better, hence multi size tiles. Choose straight edges so the grout lines are smaller.

Love wood in a kitchen. Had it in an apartment I rented and now changed tile to wood in our first home. We had wood installed here five years ago and it is great. Much easier to maintain than tile - no cracking, no discolored grout.

Yes, it might look like a lot of wood in one room, but I don't think it is a bad thing. It will add some contrast to what you currently have.

If you can get the same hardwoods I would continue those into the kitchen, and then paint the walls a warm white or very light cream. You will likely want to add a rug under the table to break up the dark woods. If you can't match the hardwood, a tile is fine, but I would only use a matte finish in a beige/cream tone - no grays.
