Is there a dresser in the room too or just the closet?

You have room on the bottom of the closet for a divided basket to hold tights, leggings, etc. You can also get slide-on shelf dividers to better organize the shelves.

There is no dresser currently in the room. I am trying to be minimalist and since the closet is large i can fit everything in there. I think i am going to move all the games etc in the shelves to the basement for my older kids. I like the idea of shelf dividers!

Hang up all the clothes except for underwear and socks. They can go in boxes.

Go through everything now for summer and then again at the end of summer.

I dont think even with slimmer joy mangano hangers that i would have room to hang up everything. And then what would i out on the shelves?

Is there an Ikea near you? They have these Skubb drawer organizers that are just great. Small ones for underwear. Larger ones fit socks, tops, leggings, tights, etc. They have some that store shoes as well if you need that for the bottom shelf.

Alternatively, clear plastic shoe boxes can corral like with like. (Dollar store, Walmart...) If you can store toys elsewhere, do it. This is a roomy closet for a child and boxes can easily keep the clothes organized.

Hadn’t thought to check ikea for closet solutions but will do so. Thank you! There isn’t one that close to me and i have small kids so getting even to the grocery store is difficult but i can order from ikea online!

From the clothing, I am guessing she may be 3 or 4 years old. She doesn’t care about all of these clothes. She should have somewhere for her toys in her room unless all the girls’ toys are banished to a playroom. Her top rod is too high for her to reach and her shelves are too high as well. Give the child a small dresser for folded clothes and lower the lower rod. Give her space down low for some age-appropriate toys. (Make sure that the shelf unit is properly attached to the closet wall....little kids think they can climb to reach something up high.)
Edit out clothes and shoes when she outgrows them.

I would first sort through: toss, wear (and fits!), donate. Then you can determine what your actual needs are as to boxes, cubbies, shelves, hangars. Who keeps this closet, you or her?

Someone on here showed how she built cubbies and shelves on the bottom. Looked great and I’m sure was a huge help in getting a kid to help put things away. You’re half way there already.

I have twin girls that share a room so I totally get the too many clothes/closet storage dilemma.

First of all, I'd I'd say remove all non-clothing items from the closet (games, puzzles, etc.).

Second, where is off season clothing stored? In the closet or elsewhere? Is there a dresser or other drawer storage in the bedroom?

Third, where are shoes stored? I don't see any in the closet now, but we use clothes baskets in the bottom of the closet to corral shoes.

Fourth, I actually think that three shallower wire baskets would be better than two deeper ones. That way, you can Marie Kondo fold t-shirts, leggings, pants, etc. in the pull out drawers.

Fifth, are the shelves adjustable? If so, I'd remove a shelf or two and rearrange the other shelves as they are too close together at this point and stuff is getting lost in the back. We use a lot of canvas totes to store things in but they won't fit on your shelves as they are.

Sixth, purge. Read up about creating a capsule wardrobe for kids. Then resist the urge to buy :) I know, easier said than done, though, especially with girls!! My SIL has four girls and it's clothes galore at their house!

1. go through everything and decide what to keep and what not to keep
2. I it were me I would keep anything that is not clothing somewhere else
3. Put the clothes back in the closet in an organized way and, most importantly, is easy to keep up. If you put things away too organized it gets to be too much to keep up and all your hard with will go out the window (think separating shirts by colors)
4. Take anything that is not clothing and put it away somewhere else. We keep most of our toys in our toy room / den (this way upstairs is only for sleeping and dressing)

Sort the clothing by size and by weight (heavy weight, midweight and light (winter, spring/fall, summer)). Pack anything that is too big for her into boxes for the future. Select 14 complete outfits for each season and donate the rest.

Jennifer i like the idea of donating the rest! With 3 girls we have sooo much stuff! We r fortunate to get a ton of fancy hand me downs from friends’ girls!

She’s actually only 22 Months but she loves me to dress her in the mornings! I usually have had to keep stuff up high with my other girls bc otherwise they pull all the clothes off the hangers and it’s an all day Fashion show LOL

My grand daughter had this exact issue in her room we spent an entire afternoon going through the clothes with the love it or lose it idea and had a ball together and weeded out 1/2 the stuff she rarely if ever wore. IMO hanging space in a closet can be doubled for kids all those shelves are really pretty useless for clothes storage I would look at closet organizer that includes some drawers for all the stuff that doesn’t need hanging up. I have those dividers fromIkea I love them but unless you put the clothes away after laundry they will never stay organized .This is a good one to grow with her

@Patricia what is the name of the closet organization system you used from ikea. It looks great!

looking at the photo the space was not fully utilised top shelf would help and a new organiser. home depot has kits that range from $120 - $300 that would help. hope that helps
