HUGE Aloe Marlothii Value??

I am selling my HUGE Aloe 'Marlothii' on FaceBook, ...since I don't see a sale forum on here. I thought maybe someone might know the REAL value of this big specimen. I have grown it for 15yrs. It started out in a 4in pot SOOO long ago:) It is nice and healthy, great spines all over the leaves, good trunk, and it is about 4 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Tip to tip.

I looked online and small ones now in 6in pots go for $50-90! But of course I cant find a 'specimen' sized one to get a price. Anyone into aloes know what I should ask for this plant? I know this variety is not common, and the size is, well, ...not common! It is over 18 yrs old at least now. So...what should I ask for it? Anyone have an idea?? Thanks for any help.

IMO, there are two misperceptions in your post that would perhaps affect your valuation:

1) 'I looked online and small ones now in 6in pots go for $50-90!' - this price is wildly inflated. Most SouCal nurseries would sell a 6" plant for no more than forty dollars, and that's really expensive.

2) This species is not uncommon at all.

If you asked for $75 to $100, I think that would be a fair price.

It was So Cal nurseries online that i saw the prices i saw:) Have you seen one this big and old?? I think it is a 'specimen' plant, and would look great in a cactus lovers garden. It lived through 3 hurricanes, so it is sturdy.

I have another one now, it is in a 6in pot. Now at 4yrs old. I'll never see this size in my life again. BUT it needs a better cactus garden. I hate the idea of dumping it. It is in the way, and I cant dig it up and move it. I dont have the back anymore.

Well I will see what others say....but I'll put up a post for $50 and get it started, I can always change it, if it doesn't sell overnight.

Just about every collection of Aloes in SouCal has this, Pooh - I daresay using the word 'ubiquitous' is not out of place, so yes, it's quite easy to see one like this. They're often used in business landscapes, too.

I understand the need to save plants and to want them to have good homes - I did the same with my collection when I left San Diego for British Columbia.

It's certainly worth the starting bid, and I hope you get a C-note or more for it.

Matt, the things we do for love....

Not at all, though - I grow fewer indoor plants but more PIG'd plants which are cold-hardy. This part of BC isn't bad (considering it compared with the rest of Canada).

well i have it on FaceBook for sale, for $50. i had 4 offers. BUT they wanted it shipped! That cant be done. So i have dropped it to $25, hoping 1 of the people that wanted it for $50 (that is a local) will do it for $25. I am selling off most of my plants, it is a tropical fire sale! Just gonna keep my violets.
