I count them. It’s a way to know if they are thriving or in decline. I have a spreadsheet - I use Google Sheets because I find it easier than Excel - and I can easily access it and enter the data on my phone as I go around the garden. Some, however, have too many to count - especially smaller ones like Lemon Lime, Golden Tiara, Gold Drop. But I can look at them and just know they’re ok.

I‘d say most of mine have increased this year, some dramatically. But a few have declined, so I’ll need to take remedial actions.

I count them too. If they've declined for 2 years I move the plant....away from tree roots...to sunnier spot.. Pip counting is a favourite Springtime activity.
