Barb, ain't no doubt the 2nd shot shows the kind of pips you'd expect from 'Minuteman', but it seems quite unlikely the pips in the first picture are. There are signs of white edge variegation on the pips in the first picture but it may well prove to be an anomaly and look frightfully similar to 'Minuteman'. Sporting does happen frequently with members of the Hyacinthina family but that typically starts off with a single shoot.

Thanks for your comments Pieter. I have had these clumps for at least 3 years and although I do recall some very wide white margins one year, they have always looked like Minuteman clumps. It will be interesting to see what unfurls from these green pips. I too always thought sporting started with a single shoot - at least that has been my experience over the years. I'll watch with anticipation to see what happens!
