Which quartz stone is more expensive. Cambria or Hanstone?

Sorry I should have included that I would only do the subway tile throughout.

Thanks for your thoughts. We didn’t select the herringbone. Just sharing pics for others to see different options. To each their own! However, I would point out that Montauk does have white sections that don’t have veining and the pattern is soft so I think it can work to pick a backsplash with some visual interest.

Brianne- I agree. Montauk does have a lot of white and the veining pattern is very soft & subtle. Please share a photo of your finished product. Can’t wait to see your backsplash. I’m still... stuck.

Just sharing pics of more tile I have around the house. Bedrosians Allora matte porcelain geometric wall tile in gray. The rectangle sample is just to show the color (“gray”), against Montauk. Less than $10/sf.

I just picked up a sample of the Montauk today , it is beautiful, but just wondering if all slabs have the “white veining” along with the subtle warm gray veining? The countertop company told me they offer a really good price for the Montauk, and I want to make sure the “white veining” that I’m seeing close up, is standard with this color. It almost looks like someone spilled powdered sugar on the sample, but it is beautiful all the same. I just haven’t seen any other marble “lookalikes” with the white veining running through it. Any input is appreciated.

Forgot to add a photo of the fine white veining I see in the sample.

After the back and forth with Torquay and Montauk I went with Cambria Smithfield.

Yes it does have the white. It’s gorgeous.

Lori, I looked at 3 different Montauk samples and a fabricated bathroom vanity and saw the subtle white veining in all of them.

Congrats Tiffany on making a selection! Please post pics once it’s installed!

@mommymezzo curious what your sink is. I need to pull the trigger on one and am not sure if I want white or a color. Thanks!

@mommymezzo , @Brianne Margolin and @brettfelouzis... I too am looking at the Montauk for the granny flat we are building for guests and possibly my mother later on. I was a bit worried that a stranger may put something hot out of the oven on the counter. Have any of you had damage from someone doing this on your Montauk counters? Thanks!!

Hi! We haven’t had any heat damage. Although it isn’t recommended to allow hot pans on any quartz, I’ve set things down for a quick second and have not had any problems. Essentially you don’t want to melt the resin in the quartz with repeated heat exposure. If it helps in your decision making, my daughter has written on it with sharpie and my son spilled red food dye—both of which we got out pretty easily with a magic eraser and some elbow grease.

Tiffany- How are you liking Smithfield. Would you post pictures? I’m debating between white Cliff and Smithfield. Thanks!

I love Cambria. I'm not too familiar with Hanstone but I personally gave seen & have a lot of Cambria products (:

For our montauk kitchen, I went with a white farm sink. I never place anything hot directly on the quartz. It’s my understanding that Quartz is not made for high temperatures.

mommymezzo Your kitchen is beautiful. Do you mind me asking for your island dimensions?

"It’s my understanding that Quartz is not made for high temperatures."

You are correct. Neither is natural stone or solid surface according to the respective trade association and manufacturers.

Thank you! The island is 45 1/2 x 85. The overhang is about 15”. We were tied to the width of the existing cabinetry underneath.

Thank you for all the photos! We chose Montauk for the bathrooms but chose carrara for the kitchen yesterday. Now, I think I am going to change to Montauk for the kitchen, too! It looks so rich and soft and the veining will match the hardwood flooring so nicely. Thanks again!

Waiting on my backorder tile backsplash and some finishing touches but Praa Sands from Cambria is gorgeous 😍

Would love to see more pictures of Montauk installed. Curious whether the “ice white shaker cabinets” people said it goes well with were the Forevermark brand of cabinets? What did people think about the subtle white veining? Is Montauk hard to get in certain areas? And what has been recent pricing experience? Any insight/experience would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have the ice white shaker and the montauk, I’m 100% happy with our choices. The subtle white veining in Montauk, for me, goes mostly unnoticed. The countertop is luxurious. I live in NE US and had no trouble getting it ((preCovid))

We're looking at the Montauk right now. Much the of marble-like quartz I've seen just doesn't look quite right to me. But the Montauk does look beautiful. Unfortunately, our quote is super high! 10k+. We have a lot of counters but phew, I wasn't ready to spend that much!

We’re loving the Cambria Smithfield with our IKEA Axstad white kitchen. The counter has the perfect mix of grey and beige and it goes with everything. Sorry they aren’t the best photos.

Amri- maybe try to shop around? We used two full slabs and our cost was around 6,000, this was 2 years ago, in NY.

We have 2 slabs coming, cost was 8k.

I will say, I have never regretted for a moment, how much we paid for our countertops. I absolutely love the montauk. Everyday, two years later, I’m still in awe of its beauty.

Can anyone recommend a Sherwin Williams white paint for cabinets/walls/trim that goes well with the Montauk?

SW Extra white is the color of our cabinets.

We are using Sherwin Williams Alabaster in our cabinets. It really depends on the light in your kitchen, be sure to try samples!

brandicline- we are looking at Montauk to pair with cabinets that are Dove Whie by BM (close in color to SW Dover White)... and wall color of SW Worldly Gray (our kitchen will have very little wall color by the time cabinets and backsplash are installed... but, the walls extend to the family room, so I chose the wall color based more on the room it would be more prevalent in).

I wrote earlier that we picked SW alabaster for our cabinets but after the hardwood floors were added, we switched to SW pearl white. Pearl white had just the right hint of gray to it but is still a warm color in our lighting.

Hi!! All of your posts have been so helpful in deciding on a countertop! I really want to go with the Hanstone Montauk but am having a really difficult time finding it. Can anyone point me toward some distributers/fabricators that carry it? Thank you!!

Hi TIffany, what backsplash did you end up pairing the Smithfield with? I am in the same boat and coup use any suggestion. I have white (off white?) cabinet as well.

    Thank you in advance.

Susan B, on the Hanstone website they have a retail finder.

Thank you so much Brettfelouzis! ! I finally found it. For anyone looking, a place called Floor and Decor carries it. Lowes carries it also, but under the name Peaceful. Hanstone confirmed Peaceful and Montauk are the same. I’m currently looking at samples of white paint for the cabinets to find the best match! Good luck to everyone!

Oh wow. I wonder if it’s more reasonably priced from floor and decor or Lowe’s vs a smaller place 🤔 I’ll look into this ... wanted some for our bathroom vanity.

Brettfelouzis around here (Northern VA) it’s $81/sq ft at Floor and Decor, and $86/sq ft at Lowe’s installed. Hope this helps! Btw thank you for all of the amazing info you contributed to this thread. It really helped in the decision making process!

Oh good- I’m glad it was helpful! I’m still stuck with backsplash, when I pick one I’ll post. Show us your kitchen when you’re done too!

    @brettfelouzis
We selected Meram Blanc Carrara for our backsplash and it turned out to be a great match to Montauk. From ‘The Tile Shop’. Paint is SW Snowbound.

We found Montauk in the Asheville area for $80. sf installed. More importantly, a good fabricator is crucial with stone countertops. Do big box stores have these pros available? As a realtor, I have seen some really bad installations in many homes, price isn't everything.

i had Montauk counters installed in early January and by March, I had llittle brown staining all around my sink area. we are super careful with hot items and never put hot pots or even serving dishes down. i have been rubbing dawn dish detergent on the stains which helps a little but they are still peristent. so dissapointing at 2 monhs to have staining!! has anyone else had this problem with Hansstone???

We installed Montauk quartz in January and have been very happy. There was one mishap with a rust ring from a pan, though it was removed easily with Barkeeper’s Friend and lime juice.

We get stains from different spices such turmeric. I spray lysol multi purpose cleaner with lemon. I let it sit on the stain for one minute and then wipe with paper towel.

I haven’t had a single stain or people 🤞🏻 I clean with Clorox wipes … and I use coasters and trivets for anything warm/hot.

    *problem (not people)

We installed Montauk 2 months ago, so far no staining. Is your countertop under warranty? Maybe you should reach out to the store where you purchased it.

@mommymezzo I love your kitchen! Beautiful. We are planning our renovation right now and going with white and green cabinets and Montauk countertops as well. Do you mind sharing what colour your cabinets are? We've been leaning towards BM Salamander so far. Thanks!

@cottagedecorator thank you! We used BM narragansett green —we still love it! It’s more blue than green in person. Good luck and have fun!
