Cool, I have Rhapsody, just hasn't bloomed yet. Are the flowers on the small side? Any scent?

Mine bloomed on 4 tips out of 5. Flower are average size, very light sent I am not sure what it is.

We got super lucky in East Central FL. I live 100 yards from the beach. Could have been bad!! My big JM in the front yard lost a bunch of leafs but still has two inflos that made it. One is open now. We went over to Naples and since the storm took so long the plumerias in the shed spent a week In darkness. They are ok though. That huge inflo on serenade is still there but not looking as good. Prayers for all the people in the Bahamas and Outer Banks.

Hello Chris, Jenny is from Jungle Jack? I got a tag that said "premium rainbow" from Jangle Jack at Lowes few years ago and never see that name on his web site. Flower is very similar to yours. Does yours smell rose flower scent?

Yes she is a JJ variety. Not so much rose. Smells very much like penang peach or delightful if you have either of those. Very nice blooms... one of my favorites so far this year.

Here is Irma #5. This plant keeps a very neat and full inflo. Many inflos of other varieties will trail as they age, but Irma 5 will continue to branch out at the base of the inflo cluster, keeping the blooms very tight as it ages. It has a very nice floral smell as well. Probably the closest to a rose smell IMO.

Here are some late season inflos which have spread out but are still producing blooms. I'm Seeing lots of seed pods and a few 2nd bloom cycles that may pop by early November.

My Jeannie has 4 open inflows and 7 more that are close. it’s ready to explode with blooms. The tree is huge. Growing like a weed.

Here is Tobas Fire! I have been really excited about this one. It is very unique. I highly recommend it! It looks great from all angles and a very nice glow in early morning lighting.

Very Nice. Nancy from Oregon very graciously mailed me a Tobas Fire Cutting last year and it established itself quickly. I kept it in a part sun plant bed with some other youngsters all season where it could get irrigation and some protection. This coming spring I'll up pot it to about 5 gallons and move it to full sun. I think next year will be its first bloom.

Dean Conklin is a great cultivar that just doesn't get a lot of press. Its been around for years and years and that may be why. The blooms are 4-5 inches across, good fragrance, and growth habits are generally upright on large chunky branches. It has never black tipped or rotted. Mine was gifted from "Houston Pat" 10-12 years ago. I did a hard pruning on it last year so I might have a rooted cutting still around that is yours if you want it.

Chris Harkey , if you were to ask me to give up my Penang Peach several years ago, I'd have said 'No way!'. However, I was recently gifted this Cal. Sunset plant and even on a two-branched newly rooted cutting, BOTH tips bloomed this summer. I've never seen such a will to bloom on a plumeria yet. So, I would highly recommend Cal. Sunset. You have both, so which blooms better for you?? I agree though, they look very much alike. Perhaps Penang Peach can get a bit darker in color in hot weather.

I am looking to add some reds and I may consider adding a Waimea after seeing yours. I am in zone 7a in NoCal so I wonder how does it perform in cooler weather? Does it stay red or does it get lighter colors with cooler temps? I guess you need to overwinter your plants somewhere so would size be an issue?

For reds I have Gina, Raspberry and trying a second cutting of Newport (more of a pink and both it and Raspberry are Uplands nursery in SoCal varieties that I have not seen elsewhere) but neither has bloomed for me yet.

@Chris: I second keeping Cal Sunset over Penang Peach. PP is somewhat a reluctant bloomer for me so I too might give mine up when I run out of room for one of the two and keep (what I believe is) the Ca Sunset one :)

Very nice Dupe! My Jeannie is just getting ready to bloom but I am afraid everything is going to stagnate and begin dormancy. We have some cold days ahead. Looking at 34 degrees Thursday.

Here is Deep Desire from a few days ago.

The wind and cold rain has pretty well knocked off all the open blooms here. Maybe by next week there will be some more. There are a few with developing inflos still but I am sure they will stall out with our current temps.

It was 32 and windy this morning for me. The smalls went into the greenhouse and I laid all the bigs down, covered them with plankets and then covered that with some giant tarps held down with rocks. The plankets act as a thermal break between the Plastic tarp and the plant to reduce transfer through the material. I used to use old fitted sheets but over the years I have bought the 10x20ft Plankets which are water resistant and easier to keep clean. The plastic grommets on them are absolutely worthless though. Here is the back bed which is the most exposed.

Tonight may be cooler. Then it will be back to lows in the 50s or upper 40s until Thanksgiving.

A similar thing happened last year where there was a hard freeze early and then mild for some time after.

Welp, I have had no time to prepare for this cold weather. Supposed to reach low 30s with frost chance tonight. Most of plumeria are in the ground and I usually do not dig them up till late November. I went out a bit ago to cover some and was overwhelmed. I am going to risk it. Let's see how touch these guys are...

Same here at SF Bay Area. Cold air is moving in this week.

Last weekend, I cut off all the leaf and ready for the winter but I did not have a time to setting up the portable car port. This morning, there is frost on the top of the car. Hope all my plumerias are okay. I will check it out this afternoon after work and I will set up the car port this weekend because SF 49ers won the game last night and no game this weekend......lol.

Just went home for lunch... Its ugly. That's all I have to say right now. I'll update later.

That is about what we hit here... Most tips look okay but prolly wont know for a few days the full extent of the damage. Wish I would have worked a little harder to protect them. I for some reason thought to myself "It wont be that bad". It has been 27 years since it reached these temperatures here.

Well, am I glad I took all plumerias into the garage and heater closet this past weekend.

No time to cut leaves off as I thought it was going to be just an overnight thing. Now they have not seen light for 5 days, too cold even during the day to wheel them out here in the Bay area. I hope the two new inflos CA Sunset put out will survive 'til spring. The buds were getting pretty big on those.

Stupid question: kms2, what are Plankets? I searched and I see some tent like things sold at HD. Sounds really smart to insulate under the tarp in the covered pic.

Plankets are a brand of frost blankets from Dallas. A few years ago the company was for sale. No idea what happened. Probably difficult to plan your production, sales, and distribution based on Mother Nature’s wrath.

November blooms!

I am really impressed by this plant (which by now I am convinced is CA Sunset).

I needed to roll it in the garage overnight for the cold nights below 50F we had been getting in the Bay area (zone 7a) about 2 weeks ago but other than a few yellow leaves it seems unaffected so far. Still blooming on the old inflos and it put out two new inflos late in the summer that started opening today. You can see one of the older inflo is still going, lower in the pic.

I wonder how long I can keep it blooming. I hope all your plants are surviving the cold snaps OK. Cheers!
