Weatherman says 1/2” here, that’s not a problem. I hope all of you a bit further north do ok. I didn’t hear freezing temps for anyone??? Snow should insulate the pips.

We are supposed to get cold weather again this coming week, including possible snow. I throw pots over anything that will still fit under a pot. I have a lot of black nursery pots and some buckets. For anything that won't fit under a pot, I will try to use a frost cover. The one thing I will cover with frost protection is my bleeding heart. It's just starting to get big and I don't want to lose it now! The hostas will all get buckets since they are either just pips or barely unfurling here.

Best suggestions please?

I’m throwing fleece blankets over my hydrangeas that I stupidly uncovered last week when it was almost 80 degrees. I’ll throw as many blankets as I can over my hostas but I’ll likely only get the front yard ones. The back yard is getting worked on this summer so I’ve already accepted that those hostas will look sad all summer.

The things we do for our plants...

The pots are filled with mulched leaves with hostas under them. The blankets are covering my Endless Summer hydrangeas that are leafing out on the old wood already.

I'll be following that fashion tomorrow, Sydney! I do the same thing you do with the black plastic pots, I put a big rock or brick on top so it doesn't just blow over. I'll probably use tomato cages and frost blankets for some of the other plants. I have these frost pillow cases or that's what they look like to me. They are sewn on 3 sides like a bag that can pop over plants or containers. They work pretty well.

The hostas all survived. Though I don’t know if the covering did them any good. The ones that were mulched and shoved under pots look pretty sad right now. I have a broken leaves on a few of them from the pots getting put over them, and they all look pretty floppy and rumpled.

I guess we can consider ourselves very fortunate in our area of BC Canada// Snowed in the mountains yesterday but not here and it is gone now and 16* C outdoors/ They are way later for me this season and our Cherry tree is not even in bloom yet. Damn weeds don't seem to care or the dandelion. They bloom Poor hummingbirds must get terribly cold at night too/ I have been growing long enough to say screw it if they are't tough enough to make it through , they were never meant to be in my yard. So far they are just starting to leaf out ( some anyway) but not much so they must know what the ground is telling them.

Not sure if we really had frost but cold, snow and too much water ate pretty damaging combo. Thankfully spring is late this year so no major damage.
