I have BA and it grows more "open" and sprawling than this one. This has a vase-like shape. Grrr...this one is driving me nuts. Year three of trying to ID.

Vein count is actually 16-18 and BA is 12-15. It isn't BA. Now then..does anyone have a pic of Blue Umbrellas? hahaha

A vased shaped large blue hosta. I don't have it. If push comes to shove, take good photos of it once it settles out. Also be sure to get good photos of the flowers, too. When the season winds down I'd ask Chris or post it to his forum. No one here seems to know the answer.

Thanks for this post. I was sure it wasn’t BA just like you said. BA in my yard is tall but open with leaves sloping downwards. I did not realize that EW had such an upright form. The color on those leaves is to die for! Also, I think you take great pictures!

Jim - it's definitely EW. I'm not sure when it was first released for sale but I've had this for around 10-12 years now. I'm not great w/ any definite time frame past a year ago the older I get! HAHA!

I grow this one in full sun and I think that lends to the tight, upright form. I can't imagine the real estate it would take up if it was sprawling! LOL

Funny thing is I purchased another EW around 5 years ago and it was growing around 6' away from this one. It was bloom time and I was standing and looking at that bed. Total lightbulb moment that I had twins! HAHA Funny thing is that the other one was around the size of Royal Standard. It looked fine but never thrived like this one. I've heard many tales of EW that never got big. Makes me wonder if there are TC snafus on this variety.

I have E.W. I'm not blown away with it. I think it's a bit over rated imo. There are many other giant varieties that are much nicer.Maybe mine isn't a strong plant.

Mine is HUGE. I can't say I love it but it's a beast in the landscape. The size of the plant is impressive but it isn't a gorgeous hosta (if that makes sense).

(Except in the spring when it's coming up....SO COOL)
