Put in a sheer drape running all the way to the floor. Same color as the white drapes you already have. The sheer drapes will be a beautiful background to your headboard, and you will still be able to see the trees through it. Put a honeycomb shade, or roller shade inside mount if possible for more privacy. Make sure the drapery width is at least as wide, or a few inches on either side wider than the bed.

Ideally that would be the perfect solution. Unfortunately I can’t pull the bed out to accommodate the sheers behind the bed. We are tight for space and that headboard has to stay right up against the wall. :(

Small thing, but in current Penney's ad I saw a nice blue roman shade -- try there? for a trim look.

If you want to paint the wall a dark teal, consider an outside mount roman shade in the same color as the wall. That way, when it's closed at night, it will blend right into the wall and keep the wall uniform.

I guess it depends. Do you plan on adding teal anywhere else in the room? You could iron on some teal edge banding to the white curtains to tie it into the blind.

We have a similar situation in our master bedroom. The window above the bed is about 2 1/2' high and close to 8' wide. We also have French doors opening onto a patio. We have plantation shutters on the window and drapes that can be closed over the doors. In our case, both the drapes and shutters are white.

I would go from ceiling to floor and wall to wall curtain panels or short ones from ceiling to end of windows.

After pondering multiple scenarios we finally decided on composite shutters. Even though the slats are quite wide, when open we are still able to get a lot of light and have a pretty clear view of the outside. What we like is they are so easily closed and provide full privacy.

Karen, they'll also be easier to clean than any type of fabric. Swiffer dusters come in handy!
