In order to help you, I have to know why everything is on an angle but not centered on the angle? also does does the round table have to stay? do you have any artwork or another room we can see your style?

It's not centered at an angle because I really don't know what I'm doing. The brown table does not need to stay, and I'm open to alternatives. I'm getting new art work, so I don't have anything on the walls. I'm leaning towards a transitional look with a minimal edge to it. I like comfort but at the same time clean sophistication.

I believe that before we give any furniture suggestions, we should help you arrange what you currently have before you spend anymore money. As you said, you seem lost.

Here is a clean lined and simple table in teak that I can see serving as foil to your curvy furniture. I like that it has some heft and will ground your room - more so than something dainty and leggy.

The Platner side table is subtly shapely, but still clean. Like Persian area rugs, they tend to fit most anywhere. I like the glass top for your room, as it will reflect light. I don't know how you feel about area rugs over carpet, but I've added one to a collage to give you an idea of how some pattern could add a layer of interest to your room - they're also good for defining seating areas.

You could also think about dressing your windows. It'll add some depth to your room and frame your view. Since you want to keep the look clean and minimal, I'd aim for a simple linen in color similar to that of your walls.

Some ideas, need art

I would get a rectangle glass table in front of the sofa and move the round table between the right chair and the sofa . Then , if you have no painting yet to go over the sofa or grouping of photos , then perhaps a large mirror ..?? Send us more photos of the entire room please ....lamps for reading ..maybe a large modern lamp .......?

Your furniture needs to be placed to make the view a feature. Please give us a drawing of the room with wall and window measurements, showing where there are doors, and which rooms are adjacent. You won’t need to add your art until after you have your furniture arranged. The room needs color (art, drapery fabric, a couple of decorative pillows, perhaps a large area rug), several tables, table lamps, and light bulbs that give off white light, not yellow light. You have too much beige, but a colorful fabric with just a little beige in it can take the eye off the walls and carpet.
If there is a tv in the room, the furniture should be arranged to make the outside view important and the tv can be placed (on or in a cabinet) at eye level to a seated adult.
I like to select a drapery fabric with a pattern. I like full length draw draperies to cover the window or drapery panels framing the window with sheers between the panels for controlling glare without blocking the view.
Use the drapery fabric for three accent pillows. Select a color in the fabric to use as an accent color for a soft throw and a few accessories (lamp base, vase). If you want to define the furniture area with an area rug, the rug should be large enough for the front legs of each piece to be placed on the rug. Don’t measure for the rug until you have all your furniture arranged.

I love that room. I also love furniture at angles. I would pull the chair nearest the couch up closer to the couch & put the round table between them with a light on the table. I would adjust the arrangement & pull up that third chair spit is part of that cozy sitting group, if you don’t already have it add a table & lamp beside that chair too. Attractive, substantial lamps will add some bling & flair to this room. I would probably start with a wicker trunk on a colorful rug as a coffee table to add some textural interest. WIth some shiny brass things on top, perhaps candlesticks & flowers. Of course wall to wall carpet is out of style but style is passing, adding a colorful rug in the seating area would make it look less dated. I would add a tall plant or palm behind the sofa. I prefer plants & mirrors to artwork but that’s just me. Lighting and very attractive & nice sized lamps will make a big impact in this room. The floor lamp needs to be moved. Perhaps the floor lamp can go behind or beside the chair on the left. It’s not good where it is. And if you think you need more, add some linen or linen look curtains hung from chunky rods at ceiling height. What a great, cozy spot to enjoy that beautiful view! Enjoy!

Can you show us a picture of the whole room so we can see what you have going on?

Angled floating conversation areas work well in very large spaces. Your average space with average required seating is best with the furniture following the angles of the walls, though not necessarily pushed right up against them. And even if against a wall, leave a few inches breathing space. Too much space is lost in angled arrangements in a typical room. You want minimalist tables, but I’d keep weight in mind. Your existing furniture is visually average weight, so tables need to match that in visual weight to balance well. You can achieve the minimal look by sticking with clean lines. Otherwise just follow the measurement rules you can google easily to get the right dimensions. Height matters too, not just length and width. I’d remove the round table; the lines won’t go with any minimal, simple lines of furniture you’ll be adding.

Those are really lovely ideas! I have not ever in my wildest dreams ever thought of something like this. I’ve just always had my living room arranged in the same old same old for 20 years. There will not be a TV in this room. Thank you so much!
