I agree with Judyg about the vinyl shutters but do think that wooden shutters can be a very nice accent to a home and don't necessarily have to be functional in protecting a window......I absolutely love the charm and style of New England architecture and hope to experience it firsthand next year Judyg.... Maybe I will change my mind when I see "your neck of the woods". :-)

The shutters aren't big enough to be functional, they are clearly decorative, but I think that's ok. It dresses the windows up a little. I'm liking the light green for the door. It would go best with your interior, although I don't know that you can go wrong with any of the choices suggested. Something to consider might be if the door is south facing, you probably want to do something light. We had a south-facing hunter green door once that would give second degree burns in the summer (yes, that does mean blisters).

Test sw bees wax - a beautiful yellow for cottages. you might like sw pickle for green.

I love the green doors, not dark green, but a light green. I have a brick ranch, cream trim and black shutters and used to have a cream door. I got a wild hair and painted it a vivid blue, almost a periwinkle blue and I love it.

I think periwinkle is a great blue, with a lot of warmth because of the red in it. It is a very happy color, and blue is opposite orange on the color wheel, so it's perfect against the brick!

I know penty of people have white doors, and lighter colored doors, but I think darker colors don't show weathering or dirt as much.

Also, I think the entrance to a home should be inviting, but I think it should also be bold, to reflect family pride, and give anyone entering, the impression they are somewhere special.

Judyg, our plans are to definitely tour the east coast next year.... Possibly late May. Is that a good time of the year to visit??? It would be great to actually meet for lunch or dinner so I'll keep you posted and let me know if you ever head toward Tennessee !!

Late May can be gorgeous on Cape Cod or not so. I think the best time for any New England visit is after Labor Day into Sept and Oct. Weather is usually very nice and the summer traffic has subsided. Yet, everything is still open and fun.

OK So I am loving the light green and the yellow. I can't believe I am saying the yellow but it is calling me each time I see it. It looks like a buttersquash color and looks like it would look awesome in spring summer and fall. Love these two the most. The blue is gorgeous and my husbands pick but I am not sure I can visualize it on my house and then with the door open won't look good in my living room. So can you all please vote on the three. Does anyone have the ability to paint my door in these three colors so it is easier to pick??? OK ... so which color is speaking to YOU?

I would go with this and if you can change the door handle and add a kick plate it would complete the look.

Torn yellow and this green.

I think I like the yelllow best. It works with every season. An evergreen wreath at Christmas will show up nicely against it, and on the steps you can have pots of daffodils, followed by day lilies or marigolds, and then mums in the fall--there's always something that looks pretty with that deep shade of yellow and the red brick.

Sadly, the yellow and turquoise did not receive enough likes from family. Thinking I am back to square one again but looking at the more subtle color of the sage green. Is there a specific
color of the picture posted above. I like the one shown with the brick home but both are subtle enough. Thoughts??? Do u thinking will work with my living room colors?

It appears that a similar shade of green is in your area rug...If so, the door would be a great compliment to your decor.

Colleen, I'm not sure of the color but my daughter painted her front door a vert similar color and her brick is close to the color of yours. I will try to get the color that she used and snap a picture for you "IF" I can remember to do it!! :-)

Door color usually reflects on what you have inside your house what style you have but a pop of color would work very well do you see the difference between b
The color orange reflect a modern style sleek look while te mint green gets a pop with black or navy blue around it and makes it stand out

Both of those colours will work beautifully for different reasons:
-The yellow is a harmonious choice, meaning it is on the same side of the colour wheel as your brick and therefore naturally relates to the existing colours of your home.
-The green is a complimentary colour to the brick. This creates a more energetic palette.....a little more "drama"!
All that being said, if it were my home I would choose the green because I think it draws attention to your beautiful green landscaping! :)

Both the Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams websites have functions where you can upload a picture of your house and colorize whatever area you pick. Perhaps you will stumble on a color you didn't even consider before!

I will say I think it's a gorgeous color - wish I had that door!!! Not sure about hunter green tho.

I like the idea of a green with a bit of grey in it more than hunter green. I agree with you that is more of an army green. That or sage or even something a little lighter. Sherwin Williams website has a lot of info on theirexterior options. Maybe you can find the exact color there.

The difference I can see between Caroline Gull and the beautiful door Keitha posted is just a "touch" of yellow, making Keitha's door slightly more "army green". Otherwise, they are both greyed-greens of a very similar value.
(You won't go wrong with either....just a matter of preference)

Black door and no shutters. The shutter do not fit properly.

I 'd do red to make it pop.
Sage green is ok if you want a suttle look but the front needs a redo to bring it all to life.

Why not red, or even yellow? I had a beautiful Kelly green door once upon a time.

Red! Red doors mean prosperity and it will go great with the black

Hi all- thanks for bringing this conversation back up again. I wish I could say we painted the door but we were unable to agree on a color and it fell off our radar while we took on the bathroom makeover. That's where my mind has been but I LOVE the subtle colors of the yellow and sage!!! Maybe I'm the fall we will do it:).
