Thermopsis or Baptisia? (Started before dbarron)

I agree totally with macranthos...those were my two thoughts too.
Though after viewing some more thermopsis villosa photos, I lean toward that now.

FWIW note that the flowers of this pea family plant are actually pea-like rather than like those of a snapdragon. When I read your title and before I saw your pictures I thought it was going to be one of the weedy Linaria species. Those do look like snapdragons, and are pretty prevalent.

Mac, I have no experience with Thermopsis species, but did read that fruit characterists are used to distinguish between the two. Compressed pods are mostly found in Thermopsis, and inflated pods are typical of Baptisia.
