How does light work in the space? If you haven't, make a Hale Navy sample board to move around in the room or https://samplize.com/. That said, I would likely want Hale Navy where the most light falls. That art,guessing it is large enough,should hold its own.

Nice space! I'd leave all of the walls a lighter color and paint the tray ceiling Hale Navy.

As far as painting a wall navy, my first inclination would be to say "no". You could make a fairly bold statement with the art, window treatments and pillows.

If you want one of the walls painted navy, I recommend it be the back wall and it will need to flow with the open concept you have. Will it?

I think it will look rather lopsided with just one of the side walls painted navy. I would need to see more photos of the surrounding space to make a final recommendation.

IME, Hale Navy can go very flat and dark gray, 'un-blue' without a fair bit of light. Notice the shift in your inspo pic from the right bottom to the top left. right to the top left. Agree with you & CDR that painted ceilings are the bomb. But as play space for little girls, one way or another I'd get some colourful action on their level.

With all the built-in architectural detail in your room, I would forego any accent wall. Why not find a huge frame second hand and fill it with a chalkboard?

My thinking behind doing that left wall navy is that most of it will be covered with the cabinets (they will span 120 inches or almost the entire wall) and the photo gallery (16x20 frames - 12 of them) so it would just add a little visual interest behind all the white. To answer your questions:

1. I used to have the sofa on that left wall, but ended up moving it to the center to make more room for storage. Also it fits perfectly between the two windows and creates a really nice focal point for the art which I will probably frame out with some molding (art is 36x36).

2. I searched high and low for the right toy storage that was both functional and cost effective and landed on the Ikea brimnes cabinets. I purchased 4 of them to span the entire wall and hopefully contain the crap load of toys that my girls have (i weed and weed to no avail). My goal is organized and concealed storage and the window bench idea came to mind, but most storage that is that low is either a chest or cubby style. Up until now we have been using the Exepedit which is cubby style and it has been a big mess - so I am resolved on getting cupboards to hide all the mess from my sight.

So I think the layout has to stay as is due to having tried different set ups and the need for as much storage as possible, which that side wall will enable me to have.

Just worried that having the entire room white will be too boring and not dimensional. If i could paint the ceiling at this point I would, but that will have to be a more long term project for when I boot the kids to the basement lol.

How old are the kids?

one is 6 months old and the other is 5 years old - so still a while before I can kick the tiny one out into the basement (unfinished)

I still think that I would not paint a side wall blue. It is going to look lopsided. If you want to paint one wall blue, I'd make it the sofa wall.

There are plenty of opportunities to add navy to the space: window treatments, pillows art. Others have mentioned chalkboard.
