Just a heads up, PopMama, but right now I'm both trying to get ready for the swap on SA, and also trying to get ready for my trip, which starts “not long” after the swap, so I won’t have the time to be trying to check it out anymore now. I just got an email from Cheryl, who used to be in charge of perennials there, and John, who used to “run the inside” part of the show, so I decided to quick post “everything she told me” so you all would at least know about it as soon as possible and have a chance to find out whatever you can find out about it. I found out from Cheryl a little over a month ago that they were going to close, but both she and I assumed it wouldn’t be until the end of the season—this fall sometime, so I was waiting to find out more!

I would encourage anybody who DOES find out any more to post it here for the benefit of everyone.

Oh gosh! I’m also going out of town right after the swap, but when I get back I’ll dash down there for sure. It’s the end of an era!

Another case of the big box stores shutting out our local businesses perhaps? Its a real shame. I was planning on heading over there this week sometime after work since I need some things for potting up seedlings. This is some very disappointing news.

Thank you, Skybird. They have so many great things. I will probably stop by this weekend to see if I can make any sense of what may be coming. I need some potting soil anyway and it's unlikely I would leave without a plant. They just want to come home with me! What can I say.

I stopped in today to grab some more seedling pots and fertilizer. It's only about 15 minutes from work and there's little in the way of a garden center/nursery that I have yet found in this neck of the woods that typically has what I'm looking for so this spring Paulino's has been my "go to."

Anyhow, I did ask the gal who checked me out about it and she seemed as if she was really uncomfortable talking about it (not sure if it is "supposed" to be public knowledge at this point) so I didn't delve too deep.

Living on the SW side of town, I have never spent much time at Paulino's but now that I have been going there as my "regular" shop, I have fallen in love with it. Like I said, really disappointing to see it go.

Wow, that is really too bad. I've only been there a couple of times, but it was a wonderful place.

I was there yesterday and the place was hopping. I mean it was packed wall-to-wall with people buying way too many delicate annuals so early! And the cashier told me Saturday had been even busier. There is absolutely no sign of them closing. The only thing I noticed (having been there a lot!) is they have fewer perennials and fewer shrubs than they have in the past. I was looking for a specific hydrangea that I know they have had in the past and they had none. There were only three hydrangeas and they were all that "endless waiting" variety.

Tell me it is not so.

So, it's official that July 31st they close their doors. They had a 20% off outside nursery stock (trees, shrubs and vines) sale that ran from the 17th till today. I almost missed it! I managed to get off work a little early today and got there an hour before closing. I was good, only 2 trees and a shrub came home with me, but only because I had the car and not the truck, lol!

Tomorrow, perennials are 20% off, but it's not on their website yet. I'm guessing that'll last a week too. The small pots of dwarf conifers (on the west side of the entrance) are also 20% off starting tomorrow.

OMG those dwarfs are so tempting. I bought a dwarf cotoneaster in standard form a couple weeks ago and was tempted to buy more. I may have to go over and get a few others. Thanks for the heads up on that!

They still haven't updated their website, but the 20% off outside nursery stock continues this week and perennials are also 20% off now. I went back today and picked up a few more, well, more than a few more plants. I now have a moon carrot.

The check out line was incredible, probably 30 people deep by noon, but the checkers moved it along pretty well. It's going to be a zoo there this weekend, so I'm glad I'm done with plant buying. I'll be going back later in the season, hoping for deals on pots, potting mix and garden art.

I bought two more of those dwarf trees. I couldn't resist. And two small sedums. I waited almost 40 minutes in line. Brutal!

I had it in a hanging basket last year and the hummingbirds were crazy about it. When the season was over, I planted it in my garden but it didn't come back. *sadface

I have my eye on a few containers at Paulino. But I'm waiting to see when they may discount those.

Has anyone been over there since May 24 to see what may be on discount now?

Went today. All their containers and saucers are 50% off. They are going fast for sure. I got a really nice hypertufa trough for $21. Their nursery stock is still only 20% off and it is starting to look really bare in their perennial area outside.
