direct sun on garage doors

I am shopping for new white garage doors. The doors receive full afternoon sun which heats up the garage considerably in the summer. The concrete garage floor isn't level in a few places and seems a little uneven under the current garage doors. My current doors are not tight and let a lot of outside air in. What should the doors be made of for best heat resistance? What features should I be looking at as I shop? How important is R value for cooling and not winter cold, which isn't an issue for me. Is the installation most important to make sure the doors don't have gaps?

What questions should I ask about the installation? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Unless there's a special reason to keep garage from becoming hot,I wouldn't go to much extra trouble or expense. Metal doors are most bang for buck and offered with foam insulation as an option. As for air exchange due to poor fit,that would slightly lower temperature in garage.

Insulated door is the way to go. As stated above...it should NOT be treated as a part of the conditioned space, but insulation here is still a benefit to the home and temperature modulation.

The new doors should have a proper gasket surface along the bottom as well as the sides.

most of your heat gain is probably coming from the roof. garage roofs in my area are generally not insulated, and they are dark colored so they are a big old heat absorber.

I wouldn't look at painting your garage door bright white, and insulating the garage roof.

it will make a big difference.

sorry, I meant I would definitely paint the garage door bright white as that will reflect most of the radiation back away from the garage
