11x20 Kitchen ideas

I am struggling with re-imagining my 11x20 kitchen.
It's currently divided into two sections - the kitchen area with peninsula and the other side is an EIK. (sketch attached).
I'd love to use both sides as one large kitchen with island. (digital layout attached). But to add the island, i can't have back wall cabinets and even then the walking space is exactly 36" all around the island. it's not very roomy.
To island or not to island?

The corner with sink, fridge and corner of island looks a little tight. Do you need that island for counter space? What about a table/chairs? You could still use it for baking or assembling dishes/meals, as a buffet, etc. I have a galley kitchen that is 7x11' so I am envious of the 20' (!) but can see this issue coming up for me if we ever expanded. Curious to see others' advice.

No island. Needs to be more storage over having any island. The upper cabinets in each corner look hard to use as well

The appliances are in different locations in both. I was only making comments on the isometric

Lol I’m sorry! I didn’t realize it was existing. Well ok no to the island for sure imo. I would add storage all along the back wall. Would that work? And 36” clearance around an island is minimum however it’s very tight and wont be optimal

What is on the other side of the storage wall? The wall that currently has the fridge?

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>This is the other option, refresh in place and add cabinetry into the EIK (photo)
I'm definitely scared about not having room in the aisles. i have my heart set on an island but 11' is just so narrow! debating making the island 24" which gives me 42" all around the island.
but then am i forcing the island when the room really wants a peninsula? This has been my internal debate for 6 months now!

This looks nice. What exactly don’t you like about it? You don't like how it's separated by the dining entrance?

    Just that there’s no island?

the window wall has southern exposure. lots of sun!
not opening/moving walls. 2 of the walls r load bearing, blows me out of budget.
the kitchen in the photo is pretty, just lacks an island. i think the iso/digital layout will have more of a "wow" factor for resale.

Ok let me just get things straight....the picture you posted is your house now? and no I'm not suggesting moving walls...I don't even know enough about your house to suggest that lol!

and unfortunately, there wont be any wow factor if people feel too squished to walk around the kitchen w the island!

    sorry to be confusing!
the photo is a potential look if i were to redo with the peninsula layout and add cabinetry into the EIK.
ur right about being squished :(
sigh. i think the 'right' answer is - stick with peninsula.

Definitely no seating at the island. Stools with people seated on them would make the kitchen unusable. NO to odd corner cabinets you can’t access. Add uppers on the left wall. The shallow cabinets on the wall opposite the sink make a good pantry. I would reduce the island a bit to allow more walking space and have storage on both sides, with no overhang. Be sure all cabinets have fully adjustable shelving for the most versatile storage. I like to get an extra shelf for all upper cabinets and pantry cabinets.

felizlady I don't think there's a wall on the left side, I think it's open to the living or dining or whatever is there. Is that correct D J?

correct, that left side is a half wall into the family room.

Have you considered that the view from the living space is mainly of the fridge. I like the stove being there like it currently is tbh. I think vent hoods are something to show off often. Just something to think about....might not bother you like it would me

Fast forward, what did yiu end up doing ? i have a similar dilemma… keep peninsula or island think i know the answer

Kept the peninsula, and built a small rolling island (w the same countertop). The "island" can be used when i need the counterspace. but can be put elsewhere when i have company and want it out of the way (bc it feels too cramped w the peninsula and island)
