I've read opinions from gardening types in the past who take the stance, 'nature will evolve and adapt, this is how evolution works,' while glibly ignoring a human-driven, devastating, massive extinction of richly bio-diverse life that will take thousands upon thousands of years to reattain. Seriously, how selfish can people be?

I also found the article quite fascinating reading. Knotweed is a major problem here in the PNW as well but we are dealing with 4 separate species, all with similar growth habits and invasive characteristics - Japanese knotweed, giant knotweed, Bohemian knotweed and Himalayan knotweed. And they can all coexist in simialr surroundings. Because it is so widespread in this area, at least in more rural locations, manditory control is not required although highly encouraged. And the state DOT does its part in attnepting control along any road right of ways.

It has taken over huge areas of our state parks here in WV. Garlic mustard too.
