Possibly nut sedge?

I have it to. You have to treat it with something for Sedge. I use Sedge Ender, I believe that it is a Bonide product.

Thanks for the info. I have a homemade weed killer which I am testing on this weed. The formula is:

1 gal. white vinegar

2 C. epsom salt

1/4 C. dish soap

It has been effective on other weeds and I like to try to stick with natural chemicals since we have a well here. Thanks again!

Sorry, but that is not going to work. Nutsedge (and that is indeed what it is) does not respond to most commercial herbicides......it is certainly not going to work with something as ineffective as table vinegar (the only ingredient in your 'recipe' that has any herbicidal properties). You need something that targets nutsedge specifically - Sedge Ender, Sedgehammer or other herbicides registered for nutsedge control.

go out there IMMEDIATELY ... and remove the seed pods ...

then figure out what to do with the rest ..

and continue to renovate the lawn.. to fill in all the spots where it might seed ...

and since the lawn is less that perfect.. i might just pop it out with a shovel .... and stomp the soil back down ...

its a horrible weed.. dont dawdle ....

I remember the name now. Green Kyllinga. If you do a search it should tell you all about it.

Yep, it does look like Green Kyllinga, a true sedge but not a nutsedge. Very difficult to control without a specialty herbicide. Your homemade brew will not phase it, sorry.

Removing the seed heads will not stop it from spreading....it's an aggressively rhizomatous plant.

The plant shown above is a Cyperus. It is definitely not a Kyllinga species.
