Blue? I see a purple flower. I'd be looking at Liatris species.

Liatris aspera is one of the most commonly recorded species at michiganflora.net and Liatris pycnostachya is also listed in my county but not nearly as common and both are similar in appearance. Thanks for the assistance.

Liatris pycnostachya has very dense flower spikes so this would most likely be Liatris aspera.
