Powder Room Decisions

My inspiration photos for our powder room are below. The wood vanity shelves are temporarily set in until next week. What do you think of the square white vessel sink? Both the sink and pendant can be replaced. The plumber is going to raise the height of the drain pipe and will put in a chrome drain pipe to match the wall mount faucet. A chrome towel ring will be mounted to the right of the sink. I'm planning to have a pro float the walls and wallpaper the whole room. Any wallpaper suggestions? What do you think of the wallpaper sample I brought home today?

    More pattern. Two different tones.

Last one for today. No pattern, just texture. On Monday, I'm going to pick up more textured papers, however, the saleslady is steering me away from grasscloth by the sink.

Does anyone have any input on the wallpaper samples I posted? I'll need to bring the books back on Monday. This is the one my husband likes.

I like the wall paper you had in your post on Friday best ...you said : but this wallpaper does not work in my room " why not ? You can add a little rug in the same color as the dark lines and you would have a wonderful little guest bathroom . I would trust your own ideas . You have very good taste . Keep it simple and trust your eye !

In my opinion I'd stay away from the patterns that look too much like the wood grain. The ones with random swirling lines. The one your husband likes is a good contender and meets your need of not too dramatic.

I like the bold stick wall paper too, I think that is the one @skunst is talking about. If it came in a color way that was more subtile and good color match to your elements it would be really nice.

Skunst and Enduring, thank you for the feedback. Enduring, which "sticks" wallpaper do you mean? This one?

yes, you said you liked it. I like it too, but then you're living there, not me, lol. its exciting and goes with the organic vibe of the photo. This is the photo that @skunts was talking about too.

Okay, yes, I like that one too, but I don't think the grayish background works with my floor, not to mention that it's over $500 per roll! Lol

Your sink will be the bold color in the room with the dark browns and tones.

Claire, I think I'd like some white in the wallpaper to bring some balance to the white sink. I don't want the sink to be the only white.
Should I stick with a white sink? I didn't like black.

What about this larger oval black sink? it's the one I like in my inspiration photo. It's black, but it's larger and oval. Would it look better than the white one???

    I meant this one.

And how would this black oval sink look with a white toilet?

    last modified: 7 years ago

This would be the 24" length of the Signature sink. Would it be too big? I like this one because it's not stark white or stark black. Just not sure about size or how it would look near the white toilet. Please give me your feedback. I'm getting so confused!

If I put in this grayish black sink, I'd change the pendant to one with some black in it, plus I'd choose a wallpaper with some dark gray or black in it.

Not good - that looks very mountain rustic. You need to determine what style you want this bath to be. It looks like your home is Mediterranean. You've added a very zen vanity and modern light fixture. The wallpapers are all over the place. Figure out what vibe you want the room to have. I like the photo you posted with "More pattern. Two different tones." The linen-look background and pattern is a nice contrast, it is geometric without being harsh, and the pattern is not too large to compete with the travertine floors. I think that could work with your white sink. I would keep all the black out of the room.

A 24" sink there will be a big problem. Too big and no space around it to set anything is no fun. Vessel sinks are difficult to clean around too, so the more room you have around it the better. White is best. Keep to your original thinking of tone on tone wallpaper with some sheen in the pattern and you will have a beautiful look. You already have the cabinets looking sleek and modern, so stick with that vibe. Zen is a good look no matter what else is going on in the space.

Thank you, Flo. Do you like the last wallpaper I just posted with the square white sink?

I like the black oval sink it will in the curves you have in the bathroom.

Claire, it's 36 inches. The sink is 24 inches from left to right.

Okay, I went and got some more samples today from an interior design showroom. The designer picked out some samples for me and this one is my favorite of the bunch! It has the right colors as well as some shimmer and texture. The white sink and pendant would look great with it. What do you all think?

I like the organic leaf-look of it. Very nice!

Jeanne, those are nice, but I'm finding that anything with gray in it doesn't look good with the floor and vanity.

I like that latest pattern, that the designer picked out, several post up thread. I'm with Nancy with her comments. Again I love your wood counter. @Flo Mangan brings up a good point about the size of the sink. Though if you leave some space on the bottom shelf one could set their purse there while using the room. Its a powder room. I really love that latest wallpaper, and if it works with the floor and shelf, get it!

I still wonder what an white oval sink would look like.

Enduring, thank you for the input. Yes, I think I've settled on that wallpaper. I'm going to bring home an oval and rectangle sink later today to see what looks best. I'll post pics. I'd love to get your opinion.

Again, I think your room is so dang sweet. Looking forward to pics.

I couldn't find any vessel sinks I liked at the physical stores I visited today, but I like these that I found on Amazon. Which of these, if any, might look better than the square one? I can't visualize them.

I have a Victoria and Albert sink similar to the second one you posted and I love it.

Your square sink was fine - the right size and proportions. Not sure why you're trying to find a different one.

Calidesign, I guess I'm just wondering how a sink without hard corners would look. Maybe a sink with curves might compliment the curved walls better. I just want to see the difference. I ordered one from Amazon that comes tomorrow. I'll post a pic for opinions so please stay tuned... :)

Here is the oval vs square sink. I posted a poll here for input on square vs oval: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/oval-square-or-other-sink-for-powder-room-dsvw-vd~5700742

Here is the powder room with the oval sink installed. I ordered this wallpaper. Now I'd like a new pendant over the sink. What do you think of this one? It's 11" wide. Any other suggestions?

I started a new thread specific to the pendant here:

Either color-way of the wallpaper would work nicely, though I prefer the one on the right...goldish dot pattern on goldish background. Simple and subtle.

Love the wallpaper but I’m thinking that you wanted your wallpaper to stand out a bit more than of your choice although it has some shimmer I think it would blend to much with the space maybe look for something a bit darker?

Claire, I decided on the wallpaper I chose because I thought anything bolder might compete with all the movement in the vanity. I already ordered and paid for it so hopefully I'll like it! Once we get the room papered, I'll decide on the pendant. I'd love your suggestions for a pendant if you think a different one would look better.

so what is the name and brand of the wallpaper you ultimately picked out?

Kimberly W, it's a Candace Olson wallpaper in the Tranquility book called Meditation Leaf. :)
