Tub removal

I have the same type bathroom in my house in Florida i only have one bathroom. I wanted to remove the tub and replace it with the shower design similar to this but I was told I can't remove the tub if I don't have another tub in the house. Is this true? Of course it was a Home Depot employee trying to sell me the bathroom renew cover up over the ugly tiles and tub. I said well for that price I might as well renovate the whole bathroom and get rid of the tub and he said I can't do that because all houses are supposed to have a tub if it had one originally. Please let me know so I can hopefully get rid of the tub.

We did do another tub to shower remodel where the condo association required that the home be put back in original condition should the next owner desire it; so we built it in such a way that it could be converted back with less effort than it would take otherwise (including keeping the drain in the same location by using a sloped floor to a vertical drain):

Separately, some people believe that it can affect resale value - but you can change it back (if it is worth it to you to enjoy the shower now).

You can absolutely get rid of the tub.
