I would remove the small frames around the TV. If you have art and a mix of photos to display, I'd great a gallery wall that includes the TV as one of the pieces. Otherwise, just remove everything. You could add framed movie posters if this is a true TV/movie room and keep it dark for viewing.

Is this a basement room? Are there adjacent rooms that it flows into? I think that will impact how you decorate (and if you should paint the ceiling, etc)

The door on the left goes to outside garden, and the door on the right goes to patio and swimming pool. There are half a flight of stairs that go down from the kitchen (I stood on the stairs to take the photos), towards a longish room where we have a fireplace with dining table area, and then the tv area as in the photos.

Nice room but IMO some of the selections could be improved upon.

Drapery panels should be taller in this room

A larger lighter rug would be a good choice

A longer unit below the TV and a larger TV would be better for the room

I would select a contemporary styled cabinet for the TV wall

Select draperies after the rug. Can't really ascertain the color of your sofa, but that will influence the color. Also, do you need blackout drapery or is translucent OK?

Love the idea of the light rug and a more contemporary entertainment unit with pics styled as shown on the one above. If the new unit's not in the cards, try rehanging the art in a vertical grid. And it'd be great to reframe them in matching simple white frames (like the one below) against the dark wall.

Yes, white frames, as above! Will look great against that wall. And much lighter drapes that are close to the wall color.

When you get new curtains, do not hang them from the rod pocket. Hang them from rings and clips and adjust your curtain rod so they just touch the floor. Then they won't be all scrunchy and will have a much nicer drape, like so:

BeverlyFLADeziner, the couch is grey/brown, very similar to the current curtains. We need black out, can't watch tv without during day time. Can maybe do translucent and get blinds behind?

I love the idea and photos of drapes the same color as the walls. The stair rails is wrought iron, will wrought iron curtain rods and rings work?

Walls needs to be repainted though, thought of a warm grey, but not sure about the accent wall. Would you keep it an accent wall? Just as it is ( I know you don't like it jmm1837 :)) or another color to tie in with the warm grey and 'matching drapes'?

We just bought the console so would like to make it work... I like the idea and rendering of the vertical photoframes!

I’d say no to the accent wall and do colors that play well with the tile floor.

The first thing that jumped out at me was the curtians...a lighter color & less baggy could make the room feel bigger & fresh.

Finally got a rug (Natural Jute) and LOVE it! Also got some plants, but not sure about where to place them, and also the containers. Can they be completely different, and does the grey fit?

The tv and cabinet does look small against that wall, but just can't justify buying new/bigger ones at the moment. Does anyone have advice or maybe some tricks that will make it look ok?

Next are the frames, curtains and paint.

Still not sure about painting the roof white, what do you think?

Here's my advice:

1) Like another person stated, your curtains need to be taller. It will make the entire room look differently! Take them as high to the ceiling as possible (you may have to order custom, but it will be worth it!) I would try to get a nice beige/light brown stripe fabric. Something timeless, but lighter than what you have. 2) Your TV is your focal point, and on this BIG wall your TV is not proportioned. It seems so small. I would recommend investing in some shelving or a larger cream-colored wooden (this would lighten up the space without having to paint the wall). 3) The bean bag is cozy, but it doesn't really fit your farmhouse vibe. It gives the space more of a dormitory/college feel. I would replace this with a leather or upholstered recliner.

4) Invest in heavy pots (ceramic?) for your plants. You can find them cheap at places like TJMaxx and Ross. It will make all the difference.

5) I wouldn't worry with the wood ceiling. It looks fine. The other things mentioned above will make the most impact.

You don't have to get custom curtains. 108" is a standard length which should be plenty high enough for this room.

I would replace the chair that's covered with a recliner of some sort.

Your end tables are way too short. They should be arm height or maybe an inch below.

Your planters don't have to be the same, but I would replace the gray one because it looks flimsy.

I would do some kind of gallery of large graphic prints on the TV wall. The wall is way too big for little stuff.

It is really a great space when the drapes are open. Such a surprise after the first photo.

Just finished painting the ceiling white and I absolutely love it. The walls have been painted a greyish colour called Designer Grey. Still deciding on whether to paint the tv wall a sligthly darker colour again, the room looks very bleak at the moment!

Next is new curtains, can someone PLEASE do a mock up of some options? I took off the previous rails as I want the taller/longer curtains.

And then decor on the walls...

I may have missed it, but have you mentioned considering a larger TV? Since this is the TV room and you have plenty of wall space, you might really enjoy investing in a larger one. I personally think the current height is fine; it just looks undersized.
