Steps in middle of garage

Adding on a new garage, with the best entry into the house has the steps in the middle of the garage (door already cut). Current plans have the steps going sideways which makes us walk to the corner of the garage before turning up.

We have plenty of depth. Could we switch step layout to lead directly straight out from house, instead of sideways? This seems to be easier as we get in and out of the car. We would then put a workbench, shelves, or bike storage on either side of the steps. Height from garage floor to house is ~30".

Current garage plan attached. One edit is we won't wall in the storage in the top-right. Instead adding an extra external door on the top-right and keep that interior space open. Thanks for your help.

I wouldn't sacrifice garage depth to move the steps. That's me, because I have a boat and additional depth is always needed. You could leave the steps that are currently there and then add another set on the left side of the landing to give you access from either side. Like this:

I like your idea. The middle of the garage is like an aisle or hallway anyway. The steps will stick out about 32" from the entrance into the house so if it's not a problem to lose that...

I'm assuming the stairs will be approximately 36" wide so you'll actually lose less depth than the way the are positioned on the plan. I guess all this will depend on the building code in your area.

Your garage is so deep that you can easily move the stairs for a straight-in entry. This will also make it easier to bring larger furniture and appliances in though this door. Be sure to install railings and handrails. It's code, but sometimes people think they can cheat in a garage.

The stairs are nearly 100% on the right half of the garage so you're only losing depth on that side. If there was something long to park inside, it could be put on the left side. It looks like you'd still have about 22' on the right side anyway (if the existing stairs were just turned 90 degrees).
