I'm sure there are others here who can provide professional advice, but I've lived through a few remodels and here's my advice.

Take down every window treatment -- shades, blinds, curtains, etc. -- put them in sealed bags and store them far away from the construction zone. Cover all upholstered furniture, including beds, with old washable sheets. Use old towels at the base of doorways to keep dust from migrating into adjacent rooms. Cover hardwood floors in construction areas. Use plastic barriers with zippers down the middle to seal off spaces without doors. Vacuum and/or dust mop daily to minimize the amount of dust you track through the house. Still, there will be dust.

Once your project is finished, start cleaning at the top (ceiling) and work your way down (walls/windows) to the ground (rags pinned to a broom is an inexpensive way to do this). Clean floors last. Consider having your upholstery, furniture and windows professionally cleaned. Good luck.

First of all, make sure your contractor protects the home properly from the demo to completion. Thst includes a positive pressure system with HEPA scrubber and ZipWalls around he work site. All HVAC should be turned off for the demo, and the home’s main return should have the cheap blue filters taped to it for the whole remainder of the project. Change those out frequently until done. They will leave the site broom clean, but that isn’t clean enough for most people.

There are cleaning services thst that specialize in post construction cleaning. They aren’t that expensive. Look at hiring one. It’s worth it!
