I would not do either, but especially the one on the left.

Stairs are tricky, and anything with a strong pattern can deceive the eye and cause someone to misjudge the edge of the step--especially guests, children, and elderly. The pattern acts as camouflage. Unless a pattern aligns exactly the same on every step, don't do it.

The tan sample on the right is the only one I would consider using because it's low contrast, but I'd need to see it in person first.

The right, not the left. No pattern will usually align perfectly on a curved stair. The smaller the repeat, the better. Even then , you need a very reputable local broadloom store, and their best custom crafter/binder and installer. All preceded by an on site template of your stair.

Thankfully we are having this done by a company that also handled our gut rehab. I’m more worried about traction as I have a 2 and 4/12 year old. Our old house had the thick monochrome carpet aNd we all took tumbles (minus the 2 who wasn’t born yet) because it was slippery.

It’s going from side to side if that helps. The kids hold on to railings and I don’t want them stepping on the border and slipping.
