Backyard Raised Gardens Plant Selection - Houston, Texas

We are working on a multiple tiered raised garden for our Houston/Richmond Backyard vegetable garden. (low tier 12 inches deep, middle is 18 and top is about 24 inches deep). We completed our fruit tree lines and now working on our vegetable gardens.

Our question: What are the best vegetables to grow in Houston?

I have a list of some from Agri-Life, but it seems very limited.

Timing aside, what have you grown in Houston that does well?

We would love strawberries, but which ones are the best to grow here? Everbearing? We want quality over quantity.

Eggplant, Cantaloupe, Peas, Squash, tomatoes are all May plantings, but there has to be more.

Any advice or tips would be great.

Thank you!
