I had a palm tree that had been growing in the front yard for 3 or 4 years; now it has suddenly just up and died. Have no idea why. The trunk at ground level had some pretty bad cracks in it and there was some kind of black fungus or I don't know what growing on it. There is another matching palm about 20 feet away on other end of flowerbed that is doing just fine. Here is my question: Can I dig it (the dead one) out and plant another palm in the same spot or is that a bad idea?
