Lovely rose, wish I were there to smell it. I like the epidendrom too. So very exotic looking. I only have a whit one, and it is looking pretty bad. I am sure I need to report it. It is exciting to see all the scales coming, isn't it? Caribbean Eye Spy had a bloom yesterday and today, none of my usual 1st bloomers are ready to bloom yet.

I have never had one but have heard that rose has one of the most delightful fragrances. Full disclosure-I had to look up epidendrum and then it was “Oh, those!” It is really pretty-love the happy color.

I googled reed-stemmed epidendrum as I was curious as to what plant it was. Never thought it would be in the orchid family. Very pretty.. i always enjoyed getting the first year bloom on many of the seedlings I would grow. A surprise to see what the first kid will look like.

I am jealous , we are in a bloom slump , not helped by all the rain and wind we have been getting . Seeing your little dumorterii bloom and that gorgeous rose bloom makes me Jealous with a capital J. I am sure the rain is good for the plants but not so much for the blooms. The Crab Apples and apple trees were glorious, but destroyed by the pop up torrential downpours and winds that accompany them . If they lasted a week that is stretching it .

The same thing happened to the Magnolia. It was just loaded with blooms......until the winds ripped them up and tossed the petals all over the front lawn. Tulips lasted maybe 10 days , maybe not even that long , all the daffs are gone, the no sun zone here helped that along . The Poet's Narcissus are blooming sporadically and not many blooms for the hundreds of bulbs out there. I have a couple of iris that have started to bloom and the Lilacs are blooming at least till the next storm.

The next to bloom are the orange perennial poppies but seems that they don't last for any length of time any year as they get decimated by some storm or other. Still I am looking forward to the color when they bloom. The catalpas are way behind this year . Usually there are in full leaf by now but it has been so cold that they are only starting . My guess is that they won't be in bloom by the 26th of June as normal.

I have one daylily that has scapes . It is my little unknown daylily that Nancy thought might be middendorfii. It has been a cold wet disappointing spring. So odd as to the west it is so dry that forest fires started in April and have continued to threaten the landscape in western Canada. I suppose if I had to choose , I would choose rain . Sounds ludicrous to say after just spending the time to complain about it , doesn't it ?

I am patiently waiting for that " perfect " spring . I hope to see one in this lifetime! LOL! They say gardeners are optomistic ......this is proving hard for me to maintain this year . All this rain and cold have only helped the weeds it seems.

I bought Dumortierii last year, even though it is almost indistinguishable from Dr Regel, just so I could say I have a species daylily. (I also bought Middendorffii and Kwanso for the same reason.) So far, Dumortierii is showing no signs that it will bloom this year. Sigh!
