Big box store mislabelings

Nearly every hosta was labeled Dream Queen at my local Menards whereas very few of them were Dream Queen. Given that there were many more tags for Dream Queen than there were Dream Queen hostas indicates they were mislabeled by the grower! I told the employee in the garden section but he wasn't too concerned.

I always look but at this point I have about all the variety they carry except maybe Christmas Tree hosta (labeled Dream Queen).

Then I go over to Walmart. They have a hosta labeled Wide Brim with thin narrow light green margins and a dark green center! That ain't a Wide Brim! Unless there 2 varieties of Wide Brim now? Some research has shown me there are 2 varieties of Guacamole and June!!! Really.

Oh well, what are you gonna do!

Until I can determine if my GE is a Gold Meadow I will label her as Norma for the lady in her 90's who I got it from. And my Frances William will always be Frank to me. Call them whatever you want!

Are you going to keep these new acquisitions potted, or test them for HVX? I really don't trust the hostas found at big box stores. Heck, I even found a very highly infected hosta in the "best" nursery in Queens a few years ago. I told employees about it, even pulled my laptop from my car and pulled up an image of an HVX infected hosta (the same variety as they had). Their reaction was to put it right back on the shelf, so someone else could buy it and infect their other hostas.

Read my post again, Esther. I didn't buy any.

But I probably bought them at big box stores! Did I keep them??? Yes. Did I test them? No. But I did drive my gas guzzling pick-up to get them, single-handedly destroying the planet and acquiring HVX all at the same time - a twofer. I don't give truck to either hysteria.

And my beer of choice is Busch lite over ice with a shot of lime. Lite AND refreshing.

Time to go to the cemetary to honor my lost brothers in arms. I hope no fleabag politicians are there.

I like the idea of labeling it "Norma". I have some iris labeled for friends who gave them to me as it wasn't possible to ID them definitively.

Wow, indeed. Very judgmental of you. I didn't disparage you; but I COULD! See how that works!!! Maybe you are "kidding"? LOL
