Peter's Purple Monarda

Here is a favorite of mine. This plant originated from a one gallon container purchased at a nearby county master gardener plant sale about 7 or 8 years ago. It spreads by runners and blooms for 5-6 weeks from May to June in my area. For the past several years I've contemplated digging out part of this mass to make room for other plants, but the bees just adore it. So it keeps spreading.

I've tried growing other bee balms in the past, but they always became diseased and were short lived. This variety stays healthy. I cut it short after the bloom period and it hasn't failed to return with vigor. Highly recommended!
