hum, good question.

I know you can start sanseveria from cuts,,,,I have done it once. It worked very well. Just take that tall leaf and cut ot off down by the base, then cut horizontally into pieces about one inch tall and plant the cut end as you would any succulent. Just don't forget which end goes in the medium!!! lol Rosie

Question? Why do anybody want to cut off the mother leaf while the baby is still nursing off it. You didn't say you wanted more? Soon enough you will get another pup sprouting up from the ground. Remember with S. masoniana there's more going on under the soil than above. Yes it is unsightly but practical. Shame you loose variegation on stem cuttings. Leaf came from a variegated masoniana.

Hey Stush2049 long time no hear from !!!!!! Yeah, I love propagation! But it has also been my experience that if you leave the mother attached to all of the babies for too long,,,,,mom will eventually use herself up and die. May take a while,,,,but it will happen. I left several cups of babies unseparated (just got lazy) and figured they would be ok, but there came a time when things just got too crowded and bad started happening. That was my experience.

But I don't take babies away from mom too soon. I let them get to be a self sustainable size. AND I will replant mom if she still looks "maternitally able"!!!!! Rosie

It looks great, Fred!! It is a shame you always lose the variegation but better a masoniana than none at all.
