It is tough, that's for sure.

Jon..I had the same thought..believe it or not that's one of my few "sunny" locations..it'll be kind of fun to watch it and see what happens..

My best Walmart find - Rainforest Sunrise; and it was on sale - maybe $3. AND it was easily dividable when I bought it that a gave a division to a friend. ALL are doing very well.

My friend Chris came over today after work instead of tomorrow because there is a hefty chance of rain tomorrow, to help me dig up my remaining hostas and heuchies and pot them up in the fabric grow bags. One of the last hostas to pot up was my Rainforest Sunrise.

Mine has done really well this year; we had to put it into a 7 gallon fabric grow bag. So this 2 1/2 hour potting up session tonight finally completed potting up all of my hostas and heuchies which were growing in the ground, to be movable whenever I can sell my home here and move to the leafy green suburbs of Baltimore.

Nicholsworth- I believe yours has a sport like mine... I removed one several years ago... now I have another. The named sport of RS is Blue Maui.

I do love Rainforest Sunrise. Here is a shot of mine (center) with a few other plants. One of mine was trampled this spring but is also coming back - just smaller than last year.

windymess..so I have a new hosta Blue Maui!!..do I have your story right - the same plant developed a second sport?..did your first sport survive?..I've read several comments where separated sports (all kinds) died..I'm leaving mine for now..so far behind with other garden work..

Beth, is that a Krossa Regal in the back? Nice vase shape. Very nice boulder too. Rocks are cool. IS that a Liberty on the left? The only hosta on my bucket list - Liberty.

nicholsworth - yes, I'm pretty sure it is the same plant... I have three planted together in a triangular grouping to fill in an area.... It was a couple of years ago that I separated the other sport (Blue Maui), but I think it was the same plant. Well, at that time I potted it and it did beautifully, made it through the winter... next summer I planted it in the ground and it didn't make it through the next winter. But that may have been for any number of reasons. So - I will try again. I haven't gone out to separate this new one yet either... its been too busy around here so far... but I will eventually.

windymess..just like you I have 3 RS planted together..who knows why a hosta goes down but it happens..I bought a Kabitan from a garage/hosta sale that looked perfect..but it died within a month or so after I planted it..I don't have any idea why..I wonder if you don't separate a sport does the entire plant revert?..I'll let you know what happens..

gardencool, in the back of the picture is Blue Mammoth still working on unfurling, it is a late spring for us. Also definitely add Liberty to your collection it is beautiful all season long.

What a great RS, Jon! poster child material! It's such a loveable hosta...every time I look at this cutie, I think of the phrase "dillusions of grandeur". However, there are no dillusions- this hosta is grand, no doubt about it!

nicholsworth- yes, I believe that eventually the sport could take over. Pretty sure I’ve read that here in the forum.

Kinda like reverting- and in fact my Baby Doll came back this year almost 100% like Blue Cadet because I didn’t separate out the reverting section when I noticed it. On the bright side- it’s growing MUCH more vigorously as Blue Cadet. As Baby Doll it was just poking along.

windymess..RS does seem well on it's way to reverting..if it does I'm ok with it..this "garden" is "informal" and "rustic"..an unplanned plant doesn't ruin anything..it's too big and loaded for me to have a weed free manicured garden lol..
