I just got rid of all hard wired ceiling fans in my house and installed Minka fans throughout all have remotes. So much easier to control fan speed, direction and lighting (all lights are dimmable).
The hard wired fans we got rid of where Hunter Douglas ones (kind ya find at HD kinda stores).
Why would your electrician try and steer you away from using remotes, I’m curious.

I think your electrician has had the same experience as me with these remotes. Unless they are very high end like Minka Aire or something, they are just prone to failures. I do handyman work on the side, and I get lots of calls for fan remotes that no longer work. Most people decide to abandon the remote and replace the switch with a speed control.

While it's true that hardwired fans are getting harder to find, many can be installed without the remote, you just have to read the instructions carefully.

I would lose the remote too often and end up attaching it to the wall so it doesn't get lost.

I’d hardwire the fan in, and then get switches from the Luton caseta line. You can control from remote, phone, app, wall, another wall, etc.

Ah, yes, our electrician is encouraging us to look into Luton Caseta system. I think his main concern re: hardwiring is that people lose the remotes. For me it's the cleaner aesthetic of a switch on the wall, but I had wondered about the ability to dim lights/control fan speed with a wall switch. Thanks for your ideas and input.

I would go with hardwired fan and Lutron Caseta controls on the wall. No more misplaced remotes and no more fried remote receivers.
