it is what is called... a terminal white bud ...

dont bother digging it up ... it doesnt have any chlorophyll to make plant food to feed the plant ... so it will die ... besides the fact that you will ruining the plant itself for this season ...

odds are very high.. that it will not return next year... so enjoy the heck out of it ... take lots of pix.. and share with us ...

i would not be surprised.. if it melted out or burnt.. as heat rises.. and water becomes a july/august problem ...even if perfect water.. it might sunburn ...

Hi Ken thanks. no plans to do anything with it other than watch it, this hosta is very much a drive way hosta (a survior) I did have to move the entire plant a few feet this spring because it was growing between pond liner, rocks and a stone path that left it drying out and crowded out. Last year it looked really sad. It didn't miss a beat after moving, all the rain we have had and cool weather helped. This bed is beside the house so it stays more shaded and cooler all day, and now in more soil, I'm hopping it is happier. I have been moving a lot of plants lately last year I moved a Tokudama F but I am not sure if I know where I put this,... it has never grown only shrunk, Im going to post pic later in the year of the plant I think is it to try an confirm, I also moved a golden meadows that wasn't doing well, a luna moth and a northern exposure. These three were fighting a mean old maple and loosing. Seem do be doing well this spring in their new spots. This year an elegans, FW, gold standard, who were loosing the battle with a pine tree, a tiara, and unduleta A that were in bad spots. This years moves are sitting in a sunnier bed, I may have to create shade for them, I am hoping that they do alright and start to grow again with a sunnier spot and not fry out, time will tell.
