Two small rooms acting as master!

Need some help! My family is moving into a 4 bedroom, 100 year old house. All of the bedrooms are fairly small. Two bedrooms are on the main floor by the main bathroom, and two bedrooms are upstairs (no bathroom up there...yet. Perhaps in the future). My kids are still young, ages 7 and 10, so instead of putting one or both kids on the main floor, we were going to give them the two upstairs bedrooms. This puts my husband and I in one of the two smaller bedrooms on the first floor. BUT since, there are two small bedrooms on first floor, my idea is to basically use both - one can house our bed and nightstands, and the other can hold a dresser, desk and probably a chair or makeup mirror (and it has a big walk-in closet). Does anyone have any experience being creative with two small bedrooms?! My only concern is I don't want the second bedroom that we use to look like a bedroom without a bed - that's weird. So I wanted to be creative and make it look like a den/office that we will utilize with the other bedroom for space, but doesn't look like a catchall room!

First, you have to be certain what use you want for the room. Not just maybe an office and den and dressing area in one room. That would look like a mash up. Decide what you want to use it for, the purpose for combining the two rooms into a larger "suite". In my older house, I have two small-ish bedrooms that flank the bathroom. What I have done is take one of the rooms for the bedroom with bed, night stands, a chair only, and the other room I outfitted as a huge walk in closet. I installed clothing racks including those with covers to keep the dust off, shelving for shoes, my dressing table is in there, a low dresser, the hamper, and a chaise for comfort. It's a bit of glamour in an old wood frame house. Of course, it's just me in this old house, so I don't have to think of anyone else needing the space.

I made the existing closet into an office area, where I keep laptop, chargers and phone, along with a wicker filing basket for my important documents. The closet in the bedroom was converted into a bookcase, as I love to read.

Hi Courtney. Great idea to use the second bedroom to complete your smaller bedroom! What I would do is set the second room up like an office. Since I don't know what style you like, I am showing you several examples of rooms with a desk that also have dresser storage.

You could have 2 desks and one of the "desks" could be the makeup area. This could be set up very tastefully. Just make sure, as you say, it doesn't look like "all the stuff we couldn't fit in the bedroom" room.

Our home had 3 bedrooms downstairs and a bonus room upstairs.

We combined one small room downstairs with another to form a master bedroom.

It all depends on layout, removing a wall to truly make it a master bedroom would probably add tot he value pending area.

Great idea to combine the rooms together, I personally think I would enjoy having a larger room as a bedroom and use have a working area as mentioned above
