two favs, Red Jack and Thumbelina

There is a lot that I like about Red Jack. The plant itself is very strong and faithful in branching when it blooms. The inflos are large and put out for a good while. The red color is legit in a reasonable amount of heat. The only negative IMHO is the flowers are a little flimsy- I prefer a nice thick waxy flower.

Thumbelina is another favorite. This in ground tree survived Hurricane Irma, a vandal/thief, and a light brush with 31 degrees last year. (It would look better had those things not happened.) However I like that although compact, she is an aggressive grower, bloomer, and brancher which helped it overcome those things. She's bloom, branch, and bloom again and keep on growing while still staying relatively compact. Large infos that bloom for a good while and the flowers are relatively sturdy and always shaped nice.

I am always on the lookout for other JJ (or any variety) that has exceptional qualities. For me, tree structure and growth habits are as important as flower quality.

All looks great!

I would suggest taking a look at JJ serenade. Very similar to the qualities you listed but the flowers are very thick and have great keeping qualifies ”sturdy”. Good sent however the sent description of the site are not what I experience. Mine has a pleasant and stong cinnamon fragrance. Serenade also produce very large blooms for a JJ. it also gets almost “Gina” like coloring in FL heat and humidity.

I feel I should give a nod to the Dwarf Singapore Pink (DSP) that is photobombing the last photo, lest it get upset with me. This is another interesting plumeria that has caught my interest and may be the topic of a future post.

If you have eagle eyes, that is a lobster claw heliconia in the back right.

Love both of these cultivars. Very prolific bloomers and dependable growers. Red jack produces 4-5 branch forks for me and shoots flowers out continuously, almost mutant-like....should have named it red bull.

dupefl, thanks for that tip! I've actually been reviewing JJ's site trying to figure out what would be a nice compliment to what I have now especially since I'm going to clean out a couple varieties that I'm not happy with. I will check out Serenade.

phalanx_viridis, I agree 100%... Red Bull would be a far better name! Mine is continuing to push out flowers and new inflos. The strong structure of the tree with narrow, straight angles is really distinct.

Serenade is wonderful! Terrific scent and keeping quality, reliable bloom habit, short grower, and rich dark pink flowers. You’re in the right climate to get these volleyball-size inflos, too.

And I do hear from Laura, who’s been busy but occasionally posts on FB. She is raising a lot of nice seedlings from her own seed pods.
