In zone 6, without protection your banana will die.... Even with protection, most of the plant will die...leaving you with the crom which might survive and give you new sucker bananas.

If you really want fruit, you'll have to bring the plant indoors or keep it in a warm greenhouse during Winter.

I have a Dwarf Cavendish Banana plant that I overwintered indoors... It's quite big, I'm hoping it'll flower by September... I doubt I'll be able to get edible fruit indoors but just looking at the flower in person must be a great feeling.

It would have to be potted and they get very big. You want it to grow as much as possible so never pruning it back. It can take anywhere from 2-5 years to get most to fruit given the right requirements. In the house for winter, outside for summer.

I grew a Manzano banana (apple) and it flowered in Aug 2018. It ended up falling over in the strong winds we had in Sept. Took 4 years to fruit.
