Hard to appraise in a vacuum -- you mean have it intrude more into the middle of the kitchen? can't see any reason for that -- it's tight enough to my eye. Plus, any tweak you make will suddenly run you into unexpected thousands of floor repair, new counters, and all the rest. This seems just fine. Don't make any changes unless you're retooling the whole thing for bigger reasons than this!

I agree with acm. However, it could use some updating - countertops, add some knobs on the cabinets, new backsplash, etc...

is this the original layout of the kitchen? if it is, it maybe part of the character and architectural detail of the house if so I am a purist and would leave it. if not change it when doing a complete makeover, I.e. cabinets and floor.
