Get the headboard first. The shoreline is 36" wide by 24" tall. Probably to large above the nightstands.

Above your dresser seems a good place for art. Many art sources supply pictures in a choice of sizes.

Thank you nancy! I love them too and so far trying to keep little kid's cheeto hands off them has been fun! We got a BIG bottle of "touch up paint" for the doors from our builder.

I was reading some of the blogs that I follow just now and found "So much better with age.com" blog on a showcase of blogger homes. Saw her master bedroom and the upholstered headboard and thought of your room. You may want to check out her blog (before and after is amazing) and the her bed, side tables, lamps and ARTWORK above the bed. It is so pretty.

Sharpkl- cuuuute!! Checked into target for headboards but never thought about wal Mart! Who knew. I only wish it came in other colors cuz I read the reviews and it says its a darker gray and I think that would not stand out well with my dark euro pillows. :(. Even IF I went with a grey headboard, would that be too much grey since my comforter is all grey and done of the pillows?

I think the gray headboard would work with your overall scheme. Especially since you have light lampshades and white on bed. I would like to see possibly some ikat print euro pillows instead of the dark gray against headboard. A small concession for the looks of the bed.

Sharpkl- what is ikat for pillows? Any pics of examples?

Also, any ideas of what to add to the wall with chest? Anything in the corner of wall? Or just art above the dresser? How bad would it look if I went with a square headboard and EVERYTHING else in the room is also squared off?

Then you could add a round mirror above the dresser!

West elm has so e nice duvets with pillow covers and I like this one but it adds another color.

The small pillow in this picture is what I visualized for you. I usually have to resort to DIY with fabric since finding ready made is difficult. It is amazing how hung up we can get on details. I have been trying to decide on a headboard for a few months myself. Since I have been procrastinating the price has gone up a few hundred. Ugh! Headboards are pricey. It is hard to buy sight unseen also. I would prefer to buy where I could return just in case.
The designers here are great resources so you are lucky in that regard. They will pull you through.

For a more colorful Ikat, you might like one of these

Carolyn Albert- I have always thought about a round mirror for above the dresser but I guess it's not too tall for one? And then leave both sides if the dresser wall blank? I do like the minimalist look.

Thanks Libby Garcia! That's exactly what I was thinking I just wanted to hear it from other opinions. I think my husband votes for the black wooden headboard that "matches" our nightstands.

Bamamom- I know there's no rush and I ALWAYS change my mind so often or just get tired of things quick but I have a huge baby shower to host in a month and for some of the people it will be the first and prob only time to see our NEW house, so naturally I want everything in place and I realize it won't be and life does go on :)

Try the round mirror above the dresser with nothing on the sides of the dresser.

Well, after you figure out the headboard (seems like you have a lot of good suggestions), a good place to find art you like and see it directly in your room is an iPad app called ARTtwo50. It lets you virtually hang original art on your wall and compare pieces to see what works. It's one of my favorites, and the art is beautiful for 250$. you can find it at www.arttwo50.com

cmfiereck....totally understand! I like Carolyn's idea to try the mirror over the dresser. I just read another blog this morning "thriftydecorchick" and she gives a tutorial on making your own headboard for less than $100!!!! It's tufted too! I did not realize that doing the tufting part was so easy! Something to look at/think about.

When we think of headboards, most think of something that attaches to the bed and stays smaller in scale.

I like STATMENT pieces to add visual oomf! What about using white washed or natural grey, reclaimed wood running vertically on the wall, the width of the bed, running all the way up to the ceiling - OOMF!

The reclaimed wood adds some warmth to your darker elegant pieces.

Ron- I do agree with your statement headboard opinion, but I'm not into the wood as much. I think I prefer the upholstered look and will figure out how to keep it clean later on. Just trying to make up my mind about a color: white, black, natural linen color or gray.

Think future. The headboard will stay but bedding comes and goes. I know I am always tweaking bedding according to season or whims. A couple pillows or art can change the whole room if your background is neutral.

The natural linen color would be my choice, or an off white.

Plywood cut to size, which they can do at Lowes or Home Depot, some padding and the fabric you like , plus a staple gun is all you need to do a DIY board. Even buttons aren't that hard if you predrill holes in the plywood and run a needle with Brad through the back and through the padding upholstery. Then you just grab your button push the needle back through the hole and you got it.

I'm a furniture designer manufacturer and it would really be hard to buy a quality headboard that's upholstered and tufted for a low price. Just the materials could easily run $100-$200 depending on the fabric. Some really nice linen can run $50-$60 a yard or more.

The simple answer is yes but it depends on how your bedframe would attach to the headboard. Most frames simply have holes in them for balls to go through and that is perfect. On the chance that you have one that hooks in that makes a lot more difficult.

Let me know how wide and how tall you want to headboard and I'll draw a simple plan up for you for DIY. I'm on the road today so it might be this weekend before I can get to it but I'd love to help you out.

There are some great "brass bed" head boards that come in many styles and colors..your wall color would show through..a black one would be stunning and you could being in other metal accessories

Ron- the top of my euro pillows make it about 44" off the ground and our mattress measures 62" left to right. Our room is NOT big at all. Regular 8 ft ceilings. (Is that the standard?) I member taking about upgrading our wall height but decided not to ($$$) and don't member if standard is 8'.

Ok CM, You have a queen mattress and we don't need to go all the way to the ceiling, but if your after some ZAZZ, we gotta go tall. I'll post a basic drawing here and then a detailed how-to on my website & profile on Houzz. I know this isn't what you're after, but here's a ZAZZ piece I drew for a client in Chicago with a TV lift in the footboard, upholstered in grey linen. In an NYC Apartment, this would be called the living room! HAHAHAH! This also would not be a DIY project. . . .

Great start Ron!! TV in footboard would be perfect!! If we had the room for it at the foot of our bed and the money to do.

Neutral linen would be the way to go. You don't want to get too match-y. Love what you have going on - I think the lampshades could use a little jazzing up. Target has introduced some fun, printed shades recently. I would do a chevron shade to modernize the lamps a bit. Hope this helps! Happy decorating!

Loom decor- thank you! I found these shades at target on clearance for 7.00 each! Could not pass up that deal since they are universal. Thought about a really cute patterned like you suggested but thought I might get tired if it quickly.
