Azalea color red

I have encore azaleas planted in full sun. Some of the interior leaves are turning red. Is this normal? The azaleas also barely bloomed this spring.

I believe that the foliage on the Encore Autumn Fire turns a reddish tint as it matures and into autumn/winter. The Bonfire's foliage remains green.

Not sure about the other encore varieties, but if in full sun keep a check to make sure they are not getting too much sun. I'm guessing that you are in zone 6-7 with that Giants helmet in your sig. I have a couple encore autumn lily azaleas in 4-6 hrs of sunlight and they are doing good but only on the second year in ground.

My Encores will produce some red and yellow foliage, not much... just before the leaves fall. As long as you are not seeing a lot of red leaves in Spring (ok to see many in the Fall if the azalea looses leaves then), do not worry.
