All I have collected all the emails. I have also gone to the HOA officers who all have had a similar problem. The kicker - this nut is our HOA “PRESIDENT.” The problem right now is that the core group of people that can fix it are gone on vacation and they can’t deal with any of it til the end of the month. They have all had similar problems. The guy is an ex vet and we are all afraid he is going to ‘go postal’ when on a bender. The problem with his drinking has really gotten bad in the last six months. The other woman who is an officer was on his radar for about two months. Now I am his pet project for harassment. I actually quit as chair of a committee rather than deal with him any further. But I am afraid if I go work out in my yard that he will continue his inappropriate tirade. I now know what it means to be a prisoner in ones own home.

And I am a past president and past secretary of the HOA so it is not like I am new or had issues before.

Call your local police department and see if they have suggestions. They may know of social services or veterans groups that could provide him with help. That's very scary. A restraining order might anger him further. I would try to ignore and avoid him completely until something can be done.

The way to do this is to create a rule for his email address that sends everything he sends straight to trash.

You don't have to read his emails, but it might be a good idea just to send them to a file

"without reading them" in case you need them to reinforce your situation with the authorities.

The HOA should have Legal Council for whenever they need it, and they need it right now.

That is scary. If he has untreated PTSD even scarier. Contact authorities, save all emails and get a ring doorbell cam or other cameras ( trail cams are cheap and effective)

I agree with Anne. I think it would be a good idea if you could get a neighbor or two that he has harassed and go to the authorities with these emails as soon as possible. If you can’t find a neighbor to join you please don’t wait. Report him now.

Report this guy to the police and document everything. If things escalate you'll want proof. Also, talk to your neighbours and find out exactly who else is on the receiving end of this harassment. If there is a bunch of you then document the harassment as a group. If you go to the police and HOA as a group, you'll have more power. The harassment of one woman may not be taken seriously but the harassment of 5 women shows a pattern.

Unfortunately, the authorities probably can’t do much at this point but keep record of it all. Be meticulous ..... officer smith came at such and such time , etc

I completely agree with Angel. Write a letter to the HOA's legal counsel (meaning, put it in writing), and idk, perhaps contact the insurance company that covers the board and the president....because he could cause the association huge amount of liability. In fact, if he harassed you in your duties, perhaps YOU should seek outside legal counsel. If the HOA is protecting him, then the HOA (or its insurer) could be liable, especially if you can show they know about it, and take no action.

(Not speaking as an attorney, just thinking about the legal ramifications of an entity taking no action after complaints of sexual harassment. Quite the topic in the news lately.)

One probably needs to get some of the emails an HOA president might send out so blocking seems like you might miss something you need to know. Anyway of knowing which to open and which to delete before opening?

Regardless if this individual is a neighbor, a fellow citizen, whatever, I'd be reporting him, not posting on Houzz. Sticking your head in the sand and blocking emails, what good is that going to do? It sounds like everyone could easily report a pattern of dangerous and unstable behavior.

Call the authorities and tell them your neighbor needs a 5150 hold.

As far as psycho neighbors go, this is nothing. The guy next to me in Michigan tried six times to have me ticketed/arrested/TROed. I beat him and his wife in court every single time. I got so good at it I quit taking my lawyer with me.

It really sucked when his relatively modern house burned to the ground mysteriously. I told the former homicide detective that had been hired by his insurance company to investigate that I was an hour away on a job when it started and to check my cell phone records. He did.

I told him to check the fact that my neighbor was forced by the developer to buy the lot between us because he stupidly encroached on it when he built his house. He failed at his attempts to get a variance. He built his new house on the lot properly and now the encroached lot is buildable again.

OP, this is certainly more than “nothing”. It’s good you are taking it seriously. I echo others who have suggested contacting the police to start a formal document trail, even if they won’t be able to take any immediate action. It seems every neighborhood has "one of those people". Fortunately "our psycho" is in his late 80's and I've already purchased a red dress to wear to his funeral.

So sorry you are dealing with this and hope you can find resolution.

I do get being cautious in how to proceed. She may need to live next to this person for a long time. Law enforcement often cannot do anything until the threats become reality.

Surprised no one advocated getting this ass off the board. I don’t know what state you’re in, but that would be done where I live. Also, for info, the HOA attorney doesn’t work for homeowners, they work and take orders/questions from the board.

In addition to the police you might also contact your local women’s shelter or domestic violence group. They may have resources or information. I’d send his email to a file but keep them.

Threats are actually illegal. they are a police matter. They don’t have to become reality. The issue maybe menacing behavior in the absence of spec threatS. But many jurisdictions have stalking laws also

Hello... From WA State here. I have an old woman who hits my ceiling, runs like it's dinner time over my kitchen when I cook. Don't even mention when I go to the bathroom....I told her not interested... And that she needs psychiatric help ! I am by God's will being healed of pneumonia right now, and have had to put up w/someone this disturbed. Anybody else out there going thru.. Why do you open the emails just trash them . Words on an email are not a threat and most police depts. will not deal with them since they are just mail so stop opening them As for his getting drunk unless he physically attacks some one or makes a huge noise past the noise bylaw there is not much you can do and if he is drunk in his own space and sending e mails there is nothing the cops can do. STOP opening the mail from this idiot. Yes there are ways to block but usually they are just sent to trash

This is an old thread, but please don't just ignore or do anything that can antagonize a psycho neighbor. My dad told us when we were young that we can't think like an insane person, so you can't really protect yourself or expect them to respond in a sane manner.

I have had unpleasant neighbors in the past, but only one psycho neighbor.

In my 20s I moved to a home with a psycho neighbor. He screamed like a nut when the dogs barked or a stray cat came into his yard or kids were out playing. We would take our dogs out and bring them in immediately if they barked and kept an eye out for treats or anything they might want to eat, as I didn't trust that he wouldn't poison my pets. My gut told me this guy was nuts.

About 3 months after I moved to another home I saw that 3 kids were shot and killed on their way home from high school. Apparently the kids trespassed on my old neighbors property and when he started yelling they smart mouthed him and he grabbed his gun and shot all 3 kids.

If your gut says they are psycho - not sane, do not expect rational, sane behavior. Think about the worst that could happen and behave accordingly.

I have contacts w/me working on "My Pshyco/Psycho's from hell stories. (I neglected to mention ( I have another neighbor's that's a Stalker) This man listens when I leave my apt. follows me to the store, even when I'd told him I was gonna take care of business...He yet showed up at the store. Then Stared me down at the entrance...When returning awhile back from one of the last Summer days - (Yuck) I could just throw up ... Profusely.

But I've turnt to ignoring his existence even - Then he whistled... But that was OK. As I let him know (buddy I do not associate with stalkers) Especially after the one night he was hiding and "Hooing like an Owl) behind the glass fence surrounding the Apt, and was invisable-like due to the frosted up glass... And get this... It was around Halloween... Making it even more eve
