Kitchen flooring help!

Back story: My husband is a builder, so we have built and sold many houses, always choosing traditional, good quality finishes that will appeal to a large base of homebuyers. We just sold our final home, and are buying my in-laws beautiful country home that my husband spent the majority of his childhood in. The home is about 25 years old, so we plan to do updates and make it our own. I am SO excited to not worry about what anyone else thinks because we will never need to sell it. I want it to be unique, but also timeless and beautiful! My current dilemma: Although I prefer a white kitchen, the kitchen has beautiful custom cherry cabinets that we can't bring ourselves to paint or replace with cheap white cabinets. Instead, we have decided to change the countertops and backsplash to a light color, likely a white base with some other color throughout, and will change the island cabinets to a very pretty sage green color. We will also put in a dutch door painted in the same sage green color as the island cabinets, which we think will look really pretty with the stone that is on the walls. The appliances are white, new, and very nice, so we actually like those and will keep them as they also lighten up the room. We will paint the walls a lighter tone of the sage green color of the island cabinets and door. We will replace the sink with a white farmhouse sink. We will have black iron light fixtures and cabinet knobs/handles. Here is a picture of the floor we would like to put in and another photo that shows a similar green color we will be using on the island.

I know the floor is a bit quirky, but I love it. I think the white will be great to lighten up the room and will pull in white from the appliances, countertops, sink, and backsplash. The black will be tied in with the cabinet pulls and light fixtures. Because there aren't really any gray tones in this home and it has SO much wood, I really think black is the best option. I'm not a huge fan of all the brown tones so this will break it up a bit. What do you all think? If you don't like it--any other suggestions? And if you do like it, any idea where I can find tile like this? I have searched high and low with no success. Thanks in advance for your help! I also am including some photos of the kitchen as it is now.

I agree with Caligirl -- the floor is great, but this retro (like, 1920) feeling floor doesn't seem to be quite right with the other elements in the room.

FWIW, I am always in favor of sage green!

Your inspiration floor is a 6x6 octagon tile with a black dot; not in "fashion" at the moment. You can find really beautiful ones from Original Style though. But, I agree with the others, I don't see it working with the rest of the space.

I agree not the black & white floor for this home. It doesn't go with the stone wall. I don't think black cabinet pulls or light fixture are the answer either. Have you looked at the new brushed bronze pulls? There is something odd looking about the stone wall. I think I would like the trim there white better than the natural with a green door. How does that corner oven/microwave (?) & dishwasher function?? I would have the island countertop match the perimeter countertop because this kitchen is too small for different tops.

Are you considering a full scale remodel at some point? I find the layout not very functional and would hesitate to change counters etc until the layout was improved. Two issues I noticed immediately is the oven and dishwasher doors overlap when open and the stove is on the end of an small island with not much space around it and no ventilation as far as I can tell.

I agree that the floor doesn't go. The cabinets are nice, but they're very dark, and adding black hardware is only going to make it worse. The white appliances are really standing out and making the whole design look very choppy. I know they're new and you don't want to replace, but it's not helping the design. The layout is also pretty poor. The stove is super tight with no ventilation, you cant even use the ovens and dishwasher at the same time, and then you have that giant wall of cabinets in the back.

if this is going to be your forever home you should invest in a pretty AND practical layout. IMO installing new countertops now would be a waste. Save up and do the kitchen right.

Ok..so the overwhelming response is that the tile floor doesn’t fit! I will say that I kind of understood it didn’t necessarily “fit” and that’s part of the appeal to me, but you all are probably right that it would just not look good together. I think the pictures are maybe misleading as it is actually a very large kitchen. I’m so used to it that I have never thought the layout was not functional. If we were to redesign the kitchen, any ideas for a new layout? The window makes things difficult. When we changed the island cabinets to green, our plan was to make the island a rectangular shape and move it more toward the sink wall so that we could have a large overhand and utilize stools for more seating (we have 4 children). And if we just go ahead and redesign and remodel the kitchen, should I switch to all white cabinets or go with a softer color because of all the browns? There is oak EVERYWHERE in this home. I was thinking we would paint all the baseboard white, but there is quarter sawn oak wainscoting, oak pillars, oak windows, etc. I was planning to do hardwood throughout the main level, except in the kitchen, mud room, powder room, and hallway that leads to the mud room (the hallway you can see goes past the refrigerator which leads to powder room and mudroom). We have 4 children, and although I love the look of hardwood, it is so hard to keep looking nice and clean in these high traffic areas. After our last few homes having hardwood in those areas, I swore I’d never do it again! Thanks so much for all the advice!
