Did you get a hot spell as it was unfurling? I don't see what you would separate as the whole plant doesn't look right to me. I'd probably just wait and see what happens next year.

I have seen this "misting" on this cultivar (along with blue ivory, and firn line) many, many times at garden centers. It may be something to do with the genetics of the plant.

My Ivory Queen is looking normal and highly variegated. I wonder if climate matters?

Hmmm...that's strange AND disappointing! I would probably wait and see what it does next year. Here's mine that was planted in 2016. Sure hasn't grown much but at least the coloring is the same. Mine gets sun until about 1pm. Maybe yours needs more sun?

Ken, I'm seeing what steve mentioned, that the section with a little more white isn't close to what it should be or else I would separate it out.

Steve, overall we've had a long, cool spring, but I do remember a few days of some heat. Whether it was enough to cause this to mist early, I don't know, but perhaps a possibility.

Jim, that's great you have Firn Line. Mine didn't make it through winter after I had to separate it due to half of it reverting. I have Blue Ivory, which I really like, and the white does mist later in the summer when it gets really hot.

Esther, I can grow Blue Ivory, which this sported from, so it may be this particular plant.

Linda, yours is what I wanted mine to look like. Very nice! I'm not surprised it's a slow grower, but it's so pretty, it's worth it. I'm fond of blues with either white or yellow in them. My Blue Ivory is in more sun and looks good, so if I do move IQ later on, I can try more sun.

I think I'll let it be for this season, but if it comes back like this next year, it has to move from the prime real estate I gave it. I guess it's the instability of hostas that causes this sometimes, but it sure looked good when I bought it.

Well at least your Blue Ivory is doing good. Mine has shrunk to nothing. I just dug it up and moved it. Hopefully it will rebound and get bigger next year.

It seems like Ivory Queen grows misty-like for me rather than with a wider creamy centre. I don’t mind either as it stands out from the others. Here is an example of its growth progression since purchase back in 2015.

Josephine, thanks for all the photos of your Ivory Queen. It still looks better than mine, but you give me hope that it can change year to year. Some years yours doesn't have much white, but others it does. I'll start looking at it as "intriguing" instead of a dud, lol. I really am hoping for a mix of more white next year.

Update: Good news! My Ivory Queen came back with only slight misting and nice coloring. I'm happy with it now and looking forward to it growing bigger!

Happy to see it has rebounded for you! Did you do anything different or just let it be?
